Home made tail tidy

Hi guys,

As most of you i had my 1199 delivered with the utterly ugly stock tail thing (it's not even tidy).

Then I received my DP tail tidy, much nicer but it still hide a part of the rear light which is a pity. i checked evotech, perfect parts, R&G but nothing seemed appealing to me, so time to tinker

Hopefully I m a member of a french forum where some very talented guys found a way to have a decent tail tidy for almost nothing. I added a few things to the original concept and "voila".

What you need:
- stock "thing that is holding the license plate" (finally it ll have a use). Be aware that this will "destroy" the original one so if you think about coming back to ugliness one day......hmm....no...no one wants it

- Led licence plate light or you can use the stock one, i didn't do it because it was a bit "big" for my "project" so I bought a basic led light at 10 euros.

- i used a carbon fiber film but the result is nice also without "nothing", it's up to you.

- that all

Cost: around 30 euros
Difficulty: extremely easy

So enough talk, here is the tutorial:

Step one remove the plastic thing under the passager seat (it's not mandatory but it s easier)

The stock tail tidy is fixed by 4 bolts, just unscrew them

Here is the ugliness:

After cutting it, just keep this part

Grab whatever basic tail tidy (i was lazy) you can find or just an aluminum sheet

Then I used the carbon film to get rid of the "raw" look (it s non mandatory)

Drill a hole, to put the Led light wire, use 3M to fix it (or bolt it, up to you)

Drill a hole in the plastic piece and bolt the basic tall tidy

Bolt everything on the bike

And here is the result

As you can see it s extremely easy, enjoy

And as some requested in another threads where i found these:

Here is the link:
LED Flexible Arrays - Amber - Chrome Glow

To have the same result you need to take the 20 leds length, smoked tubing (i even smoked them a little more, the leds are very bright so it s work great)

Don't try the bigger one if you want to put it on the same place, it fits perfectly but 20 are the maximum.

The install is really simple. No resistor needed, no any tweaking, it s plug and play as long as you grab the original blinker connections.

The wire of the leds fits perfectly behind the fairings, it s invisible.

I've been under rain, washed the bike, it s works like a charm

Thanks, after 1 month and a half looking at every aftermarket tail tidy that I could find, i thought that either they are for US only (having the license plate too far bellow is impossible in europe) or hide the rear light too much.

So, after having found this option, I thought that I had to share it

That's basically what I did to mine minus the carbon tape. Will post pics once I get my signals in and put back on bike.

I would have loved to reuse the led plate light but unfortunately couldn't. I reused my old 848 plate bracket.

Yes i ordered two 20 leds strip.

Just fixed them with 3M and the wires are put behind the fairings. No hole to drill, no tweaking, no nothing... It's so easy that a 3yr old could do it

A note: I ordered the smoked tubing but found them to be a little to "clear" to me, so i smoked them a little with mat black paint.
