Check your tool kit = rear cowl goodbye

I finished a relatively short ride, dismounted and realized my rear/ tail cowl was gone. I am aware of the other people loosing their rear cowl because of latching issues and I am 100 percent cognoscente to make sure the cowl is latched in place and secure.

I have concluded that I likely hit a large bump which caused my tool kit (or various other items I keep next to it) to bounce into the release mechanism therefore unlatching the cowl. A few more various bumps and off goes the cowl into the abyss. Also I did verify that my latch mechanism is working properly.

I have attached a picture of the new way I am going to store my tool kit. It fits perfectly in the top portion of storage compartment, the fabric ends of the bag allow it to wedge in snugly.

Take care and be aware.

I still think you probably didn't secure the seat cover correctly, it usually feels that's its on but you have to give it a sharp tap backwards to make sure

Look at how many R pics you see where the white line decals are not lined up

I took my tool kit out after I first got the bike, nothing in there that would get me back on the road more than likely

Is the factory tool kit even useful? Did you add items to your tool kit bag? My tool kit is shoved inside the tail, under the black cover. Can't remember if it came from factory like that.

"Negative Raptor man." I will give you my procedure since when I say I am 100% sure, it was not enough for clarification.

I place cowl on tail section and slide towards rear of bike until I hear the distinct click of the latch locking, then I push back towards the front of the bike and make sure it holds. Again I am very cognoscente about doing this every time.

Cobra700- Thanks for the offer but I already ordered one from my dealer.

Huckjai- Yes, I had added some items to my tool kit, making it slightly more bulky.

I like to keep certain tools on me cause they have come in handy while on the road. I have been riding with other people who had items break or fall off and was able to fix them and continue riding.

In a ziplock bag right?

I don't leave my papers on the bike personally, if it gets stolen I don't want them knowing where I live to collect the replacement bike.
