Smile Custom Tail Tidy.. with pics and video

Finally manged to make my custom tail tidy along with LED indicators.

Credits to Valen75 for the inspiration.. i modified his version for the tail tidy to make it my own and used the Rear LED lights from Chrome glow.

Total time for project - about 8 hrs due to difficulties removing the current license plate holder then tinkering it up to fit appropriately.

I used his instructions to fit the LED rear turn signals, except I had to epoxy them to the tail light section as the 3M promoter didn't fix it properly (may be i messed up using it, i'm not sure). I chose to attach them to bottom section of the tail light as I liked that look better.

Differences in tail tidy part.. I used original license plate holder, and attached it to the original hexsawed piece (per Valen's tutorial) with a right angle aluminum block, screwed it and epoxied them together. Used the original LED light with licence plate and ran it through the available hole in the hexsawed piece (it's noticeable in tutorial).

It looks nice and LEDs are noticeable during day and night time, mainly if you're within two car distances of the bike. License plate is quite visible at a distance as well.

Nice job. It has to be the way to go. Did you need to use any resistors for the led indicators or coud you just splice the wires?

LEDs don't need any resistors.. just splice the original connectors and solder the LED wires to the connector wires.. the indicators didn't work initially, then I reversed the wire connections (switched the yellow and black LED wires) and resoldered everything and it worked well since.

Good work! Why did you choose to keep the reflectors?

Thx! I was debating about the reflectors, but after the whole unit was on, they seemed to add on to the overall red scheme, so kept them around..

Very nice job ;-)

Glad that I've helped someone getting rid of the extremely ugly stock "thing that hold the license plate"

And yes, taking off the 4 bolts that hold the OEM one is just a pain ;-)

Not looking to highjack your thread but here is the link to the tutorial if someone need:
