I'm shopping to buy a base w/ABS 1199 and convert to a track bike. Other than race plastics what would be the cost for any additional parts or conversions needed/recommended?

Thanks in advance...

If you at only in the shopping stage, I would highly recommend getting a base model as a track bike. I am trying to sell my S for the very same reason. But Gotti has a good thread on this.

I was doing the same exact thing my friend. After having to tally the cost for parts:

Ohlins steering damper
Ohlins TTX rear shock
After market exhaust
Rear sets
Levers

The listed above are only the must do's if your going to track for fun.

Literally with the paper work in front of me and the R model sitting on the floor, I turned around and told them change the paper work, I'll take the R.

It's the cheaper way to go, if your going to change the parts listed above.

Plus you get the upgraded engine, the GPS lap timer, carbon everything, and pretty decent Ohlins suspenders for off the assembly line product, an Ohlins SD,and forged rims.

Plus there are good deals for R models out there. I got an R for 28 flat not prep, freight, or any other stuff. I also got an awesome deal on another set of unused forged OEM rims that came off an S model.

Just a thought.

I could just be trying to justify my own insanity...lol.
Thanks from VAST

On the subject of track bike prep,im after getting a full set of track fairing. Is it possible to leave headlight/tail light assembly on with the track fairing fitted?! If not,is it possible to cut the plastic to allow this? I only ask as il be swapping back to road fairing after every trackday, and it will be very time consuming otherwise

Thanks in advance

You'll have to look around, most brands of aftermarket fairings do indeed offer versions that are compatible with lighting*.
