Congrats to your friend, hopefully he'll let you ride it and you can report back. In my opinion, if you have the disposable income and you're paying your bills, go for it. If I had the spare cash, I would. Who cares what people think. There's always going to be critics. Someone else said it before and I agree, this is the bike that should be labelled the R though. I think it's different enough.

Good for him. Like bronch said, if he has the disposable income and if this is what rocks his boat go for it. You only live once

he will have the 1 up on other pani owners standing in a parking lot on bike nights.

I wouldn't modify it at all, 100% stock and keep it very long & never track it.

If I had gone for it, I would have done the same thing barring a few minor things like the DP fender eliminator and maybe the seat, few carbon things and maybe the DP race levers and rearsets (I think the stock pegs look decent enough so may not need change)

Just use it for the street and long rides but never on track.. will have a Jap bike for that purpose which I may do in maybe 1 or 2 yrs time..

I Ride: Ducati 1098R Bayliss + 1199 S Tricolre
I got my name selected for the SL and spent several restless nights pondering the decision ? backed out in the end as it would have been a stretch fiancially and as I spend most of my time away working would have little riding time, trouble is I am still having restless nights wondering if I made the right decision !!

Never track it? What would be the point then?

Atleast even if its street ridden it still clocks miles and the parts are used. I would take that any day rather than see it owned by some rich collector who will just have it as a showpiece in his garage which is just a waste..
