Help with side stand.

I know, don't complain but I am having trouble getting to the side stand.

I have used my toe from behind the peg and my heal from in front. I have been using a shorty boot and am hesitant to use my comp boots for fear that I will get stuck somewhere and not be able to get the stand down.

I an weak from chemo treatments so I don't want to risk trying to dismount and then put the stand down.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you're weak from chemo treatments, I'd be more concerned about riding in general more so than finding an easier way to put the kickstand down.

I noticed that my first week on the bike.

After that it became instinctive and I have no issue.

Give it some time.

So which do most of you use?

Toe or heal?

I can over come most of this by using good form. Life is short so I am not going to wait around to do what I love.

I personally use heel most of the time but if I have to look down, for some reason I almost always choose to use toe instead. Weird.

Sloopy,

I feel you man. I've been there with the chemo. I was not riding at the time, but I did keep doing other things that people thought I was nuts for doing at the time, and it helped me get through it for sure. Wish you well and be careful.

Merry Christmas.

I use the heel.

I rotate the foot peg up with the inner ankle, and the heel just falls perfectly onto the end of the side stand every time.
See how you go with that

Good luck

Just want to mention what I do. It is second nature once you get the alignment down. I use my toe box as this is the closest position as in riding when the ball of foot is on the peg (depending on your comfortable leg position you might be more comfortable using your heel but note that your heel is not as slim as the toe box so you may get caught up with the side of the peg when trying to find the space between the peg and the stand tip. The stand tip is right below the peg, so I simply run my toe underneath the peg which I can feel because when the toe is underneath the peg it cannot lift up. Then I press my toe inwards until the sole underneath the toe box makes contact with the tip of the stand. Then I push down the toe towards the ground. The stand will fly down and snap in the open position. No real risk of catching your toe or getting stuck because the stand will move - rotate down and out- It has no choice but to rotate unless your stand joint is frozen due to not being lubricated or defective. Make sure you support your bike leaned on your right foot to the right towards the ground or else bike will fall left as you attempt to open the stand and that would result in an outright fall to the ground. Good luck. Hope you get well soon!
