Replacement Front Forks For 1199 Base - what to get?

Hey,

So my stock front forks on my 1199 base are fucked, no rebound or damper at all. So now comes the fun part of finding something to replace them with, now the coating on the fork leg is also starting to wear away so i'm not looking at rebuilding them because it is just too much fucking around.

So the question is do i go Ohlins R&T NIX 2.2k or S model Ohlins 1k?

I know with the S model forks i will need to change my triple clamp. and i am not sure how easy they are to convert from electronic to man adjustment?

also how is that a big with less than 30,000km and 4 years old has fucked front forks

Just thinking about it off the top of my head, you would probably be better off going with the standard Ohlins R&T Forks. Your bike doesn't have the ECU/software to control the S forks even for just the standard adjustments for compression and rebound. By the time you bought some S forks, then converted them, you would probably be better off with the R&T forks.

The S forks are the R&T forks (they are essentially Ohlins 30mm Cartridge Kits inside Ohlins tubes) they are just electronically controlled. In other words, guys who put a 30mm Kit in their base forks have essentially the same thing. An argument might could be made for the coating on the Ohlins tubes, but very few could notice a difference.

If you got some S forks, they would be used. Then you would have to convert them. And by the time you did all of that, you might end up spending the same money as some new R&T forks (I think they are only about $2,200-$2,500).

Is your rear shock stock? R&T forks with a stock shock would kinda dumb lol
Why not get the Ohlins combo nix30 carts /ttx shock for $2300.
Labor to install carts if you pull the forks will be in the $200 range.
Recoat the fork stanchion tubes for like $200 ish...total 2600

i saw the combo for nix30 carts and ttx rear shock however after having the issue with my forks plus needing to recoat them i don't really have the confidences in using them again.

The S Ohlins are relatively cheap between $800-$1200 US for a used set, i guess it all depends on the cost to convert them to manual adjustment, i know i was quotes around $500 to convert the rear S shock to manual.

Bike is mainly used for street riding with the odd track day now and then, i would ideally just replace them with another standard set but i don't want this issue happening again.

Are the newest base replacement forks from Ducati redesigned at all to eliminate this failure? I rode my 1199 a few times before I bought it, honestly couldn't tell any issue but the last owner took it into the dealer before i purchased it and was told they were shot. He fought with Ducati Italy and got a new set under warranty. Are they any better? Coming from a commuter 749 a pogo stick would have more control, but it would be nice for peace of mind if I go to resell

Sent from under the bonnet of some rich guys Porsche

I second this. If riding a base you must upgrade both ends. I wouldn't get S forks and convert them, you'll spend more than recoating and getting cartridges for the base forks. You can't go wrong with any of the brands, ohlins, Penske,or mupo.

suck it up get the Ohlins RT203 with TTXGP shock, you won't regret it. Easy drop in installations.

Call around, you can probably get a set for $3300

when you ready to sell your bike, slap the OEM back on and sell off the Ohlins, they're worth gold. That way, you are only spending $3300 - resell value ($2000) = $1300 for Ohlins forks and Shock.
