Debating between 2013 1199R and 2016 R

Getting close to making a final decision between a 2013 Panigale 1199 R and a 2016 R. Aside from the 5k USD difference, there are differences between the two where I prefer one over the other.

Anyone have experience with both that could offer some experienced advice?

Iíll be holding on to my 2003 Z1000 which has treated me very well over the years!

No experience with either but from what I believe the 2016 is at the top of it's game so if money is not the issue (which is a nice situation to be in) the 2016.

Never ridden the pre-2015 R, but I have the 2016 R. From everything I've ever heard or read, the 2015+ R is an objectively better machine as it enjoyed improvements as part of the 1199 -> 1299 jump. I love mine, more than the '16 1299s w/ DP Akra I had before that.

If the 2016 is an option, the 2016 is the answer.

I don't have either but I've ridden ScrapperX's Panigale R and my decision would be clear as day.

The 13R and 15+R's are completely different. The Panigale R is basically a close replica to the '14 1199SL motor. It's not a fair comparison at all. That $5k difference in price is very much justifiable in the engine alone. Should be a simple choice given the fact that you'll have a newer bike as well. Add an extended warranty and be good for 5 more years whereas that isn't an option on the 2013. My .02

The warranty is definitely something to think about! Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Had a 13R & a 15R (unchanged to 2016) -- go for the 2016R & you'll get a rev happier motor, SL 2 ring Pistons, full Ti valves (intake and exhaust, the 13R has only intakes) enhanced next level electronics to include Lean Angle Sensor (great for checking your oil) & Up/Down Quick Shifting ('13 has only Up) although you'll still need the Akra Race Exhaust slip-ons to get rid of the catylitic converters (located in the mufflers as opposed to being in the headers in the 2013 which means you need a full system to derestrict it)

Given your cash on hand can handle either comfortably you'll be better off with the 2016 - either way you go, enjoy it !!

I have owned both and can 100% state that the 2015> R is a stunning machine. The differences are night and day. That SL derived engine is the bomb and the mechanical suspension set up is better than the electronic

In fact neither the FE or the V4 are enough to make me sell/replace this bike. It's the Panigale I always wanted from the start.

The 15-16 R is the definite choice. So much that I ended up with a 15R and 16R both.

And beware of Mutt1979......he’s an enabler. I blame him and a few other R riding misfits on here.
