I’ve found two bikes I’m interested in. A base ABS 1199 2013 with 3.5k on it or a 2012 1199 S with the same mileage.

I’ve head the 2013 model was more sorted? How true is this?

In terms of the 1299 I’ve seen they have a fair bit more mileage on. Closer to needed that 1,500 service. This bike will probably be a life long keeper which once not ridden will be prepared for storage and put on display. I’m not fussed about resale value.

I love my 1199 but it took a bit of sorting out regarding exhaust and fueling, now it's done I won't ever be selling it unless there was a major catastrophe. When I rode a stock 1299s it was a nice feeling bike regarding suspension and the power delivery was nice, As I said it was a stock bike and I think you could live with it out of the box.

But in saying all that you may get a shit load of enjoyment out of adding bits to a base 1199 like I have or buy one that has had the work already done by some poor sod like me
They all look the same and most parts are interchangeable between models, I also know someone who has a bone stock first addition 1199 and can't see why people make changes to them.

If I decide to get the 2012 S I’ve found the first purchase will be a new dash, this one has a small crack on it. I assume it’s a fairly easy swap?

And then Termi, and then... you know, it never ends :-)

hahaha never ends.

Buy one that has all that gaff fitted already and not the fucked screen one.
Now is probably the best time to buy a used V2 Pani because of the good reception the V4 has had. If you take your time you'll find a cracker.

The 2012 1199 is an excellent bike with it's own "character". I've grown to love all the quirks about mine over the last 3 years, but nothing about it has been regretful: a rewarding track weapon and compliant street bike.

Full Termi with upmap, 520 chain conversion, RCS 19 master & Veshra XX pads, otherwise stock
