1199r suspension upgrades?

Hi all

I just started racing again after a long layoff and need to upgrade the stock suspension hoping some racers here who have sorted there 1199r can give me some advice on what to buy.

Iím 3 races in on a 2013 1199r im really liking the Ducati I wish it had a slipper clutch/wheelie control and the clutch less shifter both up and down but I guess those are parts for the future.

The bike is completely stock except for a tank extender and I have put in heavier springs in forks (11)and I have put a ride height adjuster to lower the rear to get it too hook up when I got the bike I think it was jacked up alot and would spin easily. I havenít sorted ride height front or rear yet but slowly understanding more and getting better on it.

My times are around 5 seconds off lap record at tracks Iv been too. So I was looking for advice on what is the best option re fork kits and new shock or revalve the shock I have. Iím only after advice from anyone who has actually raced a 1199 worked on them for racing etc experience.

There is not a lot of feel under braking Iím 90kg without gear not sure if this is the way the bike feels or because the rebound is shit on the 1199 I have had to put shims in the forks to try increase the rebound a band aid until I upgrade it but itís still rebounding too quick and Iím running 0 rebound on the front and 0 in the rear itís still not enough I do want to drop a couple more seconds off so can anyone suggest what suspension worked for them Iíd appreciate it

Cheers

If it hasnít been done already set the swingarm pivot at the -4 setting. This is a good place to start to get that rear hooked up.
Thanks from youngR and jamesjames

Switch to 24 Degree kit

Good luck on your racing.
Refer to my posts on Installing the 24 degree kit. Combined w/-4 on swingarm will improve handling.
Part #'s 75610361AA

If you want to go radical, install the 2015 R kit for 23.5 angle.

Plus sealed bearings.

Thanks guys I read up a few months about the rake kit and -4 but I felt I was too slow at the time to get benefits of the rake kit and I assumed my swingarm was -4 forgot to check *♂️

Doug I just looked and my swingarm and it is at 0. Can you tell me the type of improvement you get moving from 0 to -4? I will do it just curious to know my bike is for racing only if I’m buying the 23.5 kit over the 24 does that mean the bike will turn faster maybe less stability at high speeds because moving the front wheel back towards the engine

The main weakness Iv noticed compared to other racers is the lack of drive my bike gets the tc light cuts in a lot I’m on (1) and they get better drive I don’t know if it’s stock shock or because the stock tc is too intrusive I don’t have the skill or balls to switch it off too see lol curios for feedback on the stock tc?

The -4 setting will let the rear squat more on acceleration increasing traction. Youíll have less TC intervention this way. The 15+ R front setup also moved the triples forward by about 4.5 or 5mm so stability through corners is increased. You can get the CNC Racing triples with the adjustable inserts to experiment with this.

that is good to hear I’m guessing going from zero to -4 will Lower the rear. I probably should of confirmed I was running -4 before I got that sato rear link to lower the rear

I have the 2013 1199r I have heard the rear shock is quite good if revalved about the same as after market shocks? That my first choice next new shock or revalve what I have

And for the forks a ohlins cartridge kit is the way to go right? Remove the electronic adjusters

The -4 reduces the anti squat.
Your local tuner should be able to work with your ÷hlins.

My local tuner is good used by many racers but apart from changing springs or add preload at races etc I have not been able to get advice for more than that I think Iíll have to decide on myself which direction to go with rake kit etc

Did you notice much improvement when you put in a cartridge kit?
