Yeah, go ahead and do at 15k miles, it's not that expensive.

If you don't wanna pay, you shouldn't play! just be thankful your not looking at 99 and earlier ducs, the recommended first valve check at 600 miles and every 6k miles after that.

As anithero says, the 15k service won't be 2k at most shops. this service on my streetfighter (and that was including replacing the belts) was around $1k. Granted some more labor involved as you have to take the pipes off to be able remove the oil screen for cleaning), I'm guessing the service at most shops would run around $1200.

i dont see the big deal here. the maintenance costs are less than the 1098/1198.
7500miles belt and valve adjust is $1000.
7500 miles @ $1000 + 7500 miles @ $1000 = $2000
the panigale is 15000 miles @ $1800-$1900

correct me if im wrong, but the maintenance costs are the same if not less than the old superbike

Issue with this is that the bike will not have a full service history and if you trade or sell the bike privately or to a dealer you will have to disclose that you have done this and then people wonder what else you have skimped on.

Ray means 24,000km and he's correct - it's when the major service requiring the valve check is due. Ducati just convert that into miles for those countries who use miles, in this case 15,000 (14,913 to be exact). That's why your first service light comes on at 621 miles (instead of 600mi the manual states) as it's 1,000km.

You're correct about the website though, imagine someone forgot to convert it from km to mi.

Feedback from the other Pani riders i know, 1x 899 is up to 40k kms and valves have been checked twice and no problems.

Another on a 1199 at 18k kms had shims changed out and one of the rocker arms replaced (lucky it was in the last few weeks of warranty.

Mine is nowhere needed doing but I asked anyway 24K km service $1500 aud and that’s if they are in spec. More $$$ for adjusting

Antihero paid a high rate because his was the first panigale to get done.

Anyone offering to do the job cheaper is taking the piss or not doing it at all.

As I found out with the highly regarded local italian service centre that charges cheaply couldn’t be bothered to replace the running in oil.

And we have a muppet on our local riding group and reckons his mates of a mechanic shop reckons can do a valve check/major service on a bike for $400 aud. Having done them on R1 and it’s not a two hour job + materials/checks + profit.
