Talking New 2015 1199r

Welp,

Lucky SOB,

Traded my 959 in for a 1199r.
At the tail end of this track season I convinced myself I was going to start racing for the 2019 season. I have been riding track for 5 seasons now and am at the top of the Advanced group for speed. For the past two seasons I have been piloting a 959. I cant say enough about that motorcycle as I think it is an outstanding machine. I also know the advanced group jump from Novice is a big one. I will do fine my first year in novice and maybe the year after when I am placed in Amateur. I also think my third season racing I will hit a wall in my talent and what parts are on the bike.
I considered upgrading the suspension and seeing what I can do to punch more power out of the motor. At that point I would wonder about reliability issues. At the end of the day I would end up putting 10-13k into a bike that will still be down on power compared to my competitors on liter bikes.
I kicked the idea around of maybe just running the bike stock for two years before upgrading to a 1199r.
I started searching online for what a 1199r would cost me. Looking at the used bikes I figured the jump would not be bad at all and much, much less than having to upgrade the bike. The R as you know comes with A-Lot of goodies.
I so happened to find a brand new 2015 1199r at a dealership. Ride One Powersports had been holding onto this bike since 2015. They had it advertised for $24,999.00. Well my plans went right out the Window. I left Friday night from Vermont, drove till 3:30 AM, cat napped in the car for 1.5 hours and finished my journey by 11:00 AM. The beautiful machine only had 0.1 miles on it. I could not be more happy

You're going to love her. It's the smoothest 205, er 197 hp, I have ever felt. But, she is still a beastie!

are you ready to throw it into the dumpster in the first practice on the first race weekend? because that is the mental baseline you will need ...

i've races a few seasons on a clapped out SV650 and it has taught me so much. but nothing could prepare me for racing a panigale and not being willing to commit to bin it. so i ended up just a few seconds faster than on a freaking sv. which might also be because the sv is a piece of cake to ride fast, while the pani is a beast.
more smiles per miles and way harder earned. so, kudos for getting the R out on the gris, good luck !!!

Yes, I don't expect to set the world on fire with lap times on it. It will take some used to. Many people gave me a hard time when I committed my 959 to track duty. Telling me to get a cheap race bike. For me it is about the smiles. That 959 was a blast. I put my 1299rFe on the track a couple of days last season, and people thought I was insane for doing so. I did not buy my bikes to only sit in my livingroom. These bikes are amazing and belong on a track in to truly appreciate them. I am working on getting race plastics for the 1199r as it will be my track bike. I am not planning on doing full race series, maybe 3-4 weekends just racing. I will still mostly keep with the track days. The race series near me is one track only. I like to run as many tracks as I can. This season I did 6 different tracks and 19 track days. I want to do the same next season, maybe more, who knows

Congratulations and great attitude. My PaniR went straight from the showroom Saturday afternoon to the track Monday morning with the 2 miles the dealer put on for their safety check.
One word, your bike is the Panigale R, not the 1199 R. Still the same size but a much improved bike. PaniR for short.
Thanks from 1299rFE

I am thinking of bringing my bike to my local Ducati dealer and having them break it in on the Dyno and heading to Barber this spring

I changed my bikes to 2015 Panigale R btw.
My bike only has .1 miles on it. Dealership never did a safety ride.
I am love the OEM plastics so much I am looking for the same, to take off the OEM's but put cheaper aftermarkets on it.

I might forgo the racing another year so I can enjoy this bike on the street as well as do track days.

The organization I do my track days with do a 3 part race series which has a street bike entry so you don't have to submit to the racing rules of no headlights and wiring the bike up and obtaining an oil catch fairing.

I am still up in the air with this. I still need to get about $1000 of crash protection on the bike including rear sets, bar ends, "frame sliders" and axle protection before investing further into plastics. Maybe I will just take a $3,000 personal loan out to prep the bike?
