fan problem

New owner of 2013 Panigale 1199.
I had the "fan not working" recently, that seems to be fairly common (searching here). Riding in traffic, noticed temp is up, then throttle stops working, lights come on. Engine does not stop. I pulled over, waited for cool down and nursed in home (shutting engine off at lights).

Coincidently, I did have left side cover off to install a power cable and route up to phone holder. However, could have just been first hot day in a while where I have ridden. I do recall that fan has worked before (I think). I bought bike used last november.

Anyone have suggestions for what to chase? I guess I could take to dealer, but thought I'd try to chase it a bit myself. From reading service manual, fan should turn on at 103C (217F).

Searching here brings up various posts about chasing computer problems, shorts, etc.
Thx for any help.

I guess I would just put some power to the fan and see if it actually starts up. That way you can eliminate the fan itself. Also see if there is a fuse for the fan which may have blown. Check for broken cables or disconnected wires. After that I would have to take to the shop. I think for a mechanic it would be a quick fix.

Far as I can tell (from owners and workshop manuals), there is no fuse for fan. Still looking for a fan relay.

Rode this evening temps stayed low during ride (actually lowest while zipping along at 80mph). Pulled in to garage, let it idle until temp went up to 217F.. and fan came on and kept it there. So, whatever problem I had earlier went away this evening.

Use a software program to mod the fan temp. You want the fan coming on at 190. At 217, in stop and go situations, you are inviting a host of issues.

If you get the full software package with all the wideband stuff now you can correctly tune the bike. Bren, Rapid and stuff like Tune boy is a waste.
