2014 Panigale wont start in neutral

So I just got my dream bike over the weekend! This thing has been both terrifying and amazing at the same time. Loving every minute of it. However I am having that common neutral gear problem when starting. I have done some research and although some results seem close, none of them seem to be entirely accurate to what I'm experiencing. When I try to start the bike, regardless if it's been warmed up or not, I can't find neutral and have it display on the dash, thus preventing the bike to start with the stand down. After it is a little warmed up it becomes slightly easier, but it never stays for more than a few seconds. Bike seems to recognize when it is in neutral without the stand down though, so I can sit at lights just fine.

I have seen some solutions recommending to get a new sensor installed and re calibrated, re calibrate the current one, or just dealing with it because it's a "common problem, and there isn't a permanent solution".

Anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to take it to ducati and have them just re calibrate it because the nearest one is 2 hours away and I have to travel over a mountain pass, so that's probably not happening anytime soon. Would just buying a new one and installing it be fine? I've heard of some people having success with that without re calibration. Also I think the location is underneath the tailpipe under the rear section, but I haven't been able to confirm.

The symptoms you describe suggest a problem with the GPS. Try to initiate and work through the relearn procedure (Tips & Tricks Bulletin SRV-TTB-16-003). If that fails, replace the sensor. The sensor is located on top of the gearbox, just to the rear of the vertical cylinder head.

i had a similar issue and replaced the gear sensor, no calibration was required after replacement, so you should be able to order the part and fit it yourself.
