Model Year Change

My better half has given me the thumbs up on the purchase of a 1199. I know I'm late to the game here as many of you put deposits down last year and you are just now seeing your bikes show up (except here in the US).

I'm wondering, with the possibility that many may not see base 1199's until June or July, what Ducati's plan would be for a model year change. If I remember correctly, most of the other manufacturers come out with their new year models late in the previous year.

Additionally, most manufacturers make minor tweaks the second year to accommodate feedback from racers and general riders since they now have a larger sampling of their product in use. I'm doubting this would even be possible with the 1199 based on their resources being dedicated to just filling current orders.

Did any of this weigh on the minds of those that have deposits placed?

Like most things in life - you can wait - just in case something better comes along and you end up never committing.
Ducati usually very good at rolling out upgrades if problems arise with early model launches so don't let that put you off.
Only issue would be if late delivery in 2012 puts you in a position where you would miss the bulk of your riding season so might be worth waiting

Otherwise - go for it

You're talking about waiting for next years model when this years model isn't even out? That's nuts, dude, with all due respect, and if you think like that you'll be paralyzed from ever making a decision.

But to answer your question--look at Ducati's other models. There's minor changes, but nothing that's ever major enough to wait for (1098/1198 are good examples).

Just curious if anyone that has yet to put a deposit down or did so already thought about this at all. It's not going to keep me from making a decision thats for sure as my mind is made up. Trust me, I'm trolling the 1199 boards like crazy and can't wait until the local dealer gets a demo. I've never owned a Ducati so I'm not sure of their history of making changes. I only have knowledge of some color option additions on past bikes.

These bikes change out every 4-5 years.....I like to get mine early this way I can enjoy for the long haul....instead of someone buying late....like 2 to 3 years in....n then a new model comes out after you have only owned for 1 to 2 years....ur gonna feel like dam....that sucks....i jus got this....I felt that way about the people who bought an 848 evo or 11998sp which was a dum purchase in my mind.....rather would have bought a used r....everyone knows r's are always relevant no matter how many models down

The model year change is mostly bullshit.
It's often just an economic twist for escaping some taxes and rearranging accounts balance for the share holders and all.

The important thing is the lifespan.
The Panigale just went out, so it's a good timing to buy one. I don't see an update before two years from now, and that won't be something major, but something like pulling some new accessories that you'll be able to fit on yours and some new painting.
