I Ride: 2015 Panigale 1299 Base
1299 Wheelie Control

Early ride tests seemed to indicate mixed results as far as how well this works. For current owners, what settings have you tried on relatively flat roads and how is it working for you? Controlled power wheelies are big fun and this bike seems like the ticket. Right now I'm planning on picking up a 1299 base model. Having the handlebar quick selector would be nice, but I expect this is more of a "set it an leave it" type of deal, at least on the street.

I'm coming from an older model ZX-10

I have tried it in all settings and it has worked flawlessly for me so far. As you go to a lower number, I.e. 3,2,1 it becomes less and less obtrusive and allows more and more of an angle and time with wheel aloft. I have not tried it at the track yet, but a big test for me will be coming over the top of turn 9 at Thunderhill, where my BMW S1000RR would wheelie like a beast uncontrollably and I had to ride the rear brake to keep the front down. If the 1299 can deal with that, I will be sure to be impressed.

So far, it has been nothing short of fantastic. I have chosen 2 as my default setting for just now.

Thank you mr. shilling - correct me if I'm wrong, is this the first production bike with wheelie control?

No - 1290 superdukes have it too, albeit a rather crude version.

They then went to this option before Ducati came up with wheelie control.

the BMW S1000RR had it, but it was not very good on my model year (2011). It would pogo all up and down and sometimes slam the front down really hard. The biggest problem was that it was inconsistent and would act differently every lap, so you never quite knew what it was going to do and when it was going to do it.

The 1299's is light years better so far, but bear in mind, I only have about 530 miles on her so far and I have a lot more experimenting and playing/testing to do.

Cheers.
