I Ride: 2012 Diavel Black
1199s or 1299 Base

I recently sold my Diavel and I'm looking at the Panigale (a couple others too but not relevant). I can test ride all of the potential bikes except for the 1199s. I found one for 18k new. Since I can't go for the 1299s would the price and s model upgrades be a better choice over the 1299? I'm definitely looking for any opinions. I always test ride before buying so in this situation I needed input I can't find for myself.

If you really want to test ride a 1199s come up to Philly to Fast By Ferracci they still have their 1199s demo. Well, I rode the 1299s. While it won't make my upgrade my new 1199 base model. I did feel that if I didn't have one yet I would get the 1299s. But if you are doing track and street the base model 1299 would be your golden ticket.

I may see if I can make that trip since it's about 3 hours away. I'd definitely be using it for both since I live about 5 minutes from Summit Point. Since you rode both versions, in your opinion, is the increased midrange and overall HP change that much of difference? I'm assuming it wasn't since you're not considering an upgrade.

If you like torque and midrange power that will stomp just about anything on the road, 1299 base. It's a big difference, check the reviews on line.

I am a mere mortal so I did not notice the midrange increase or hp difference. But, I know it is there and the 1299 is as smooth as glass around town, putting along roads and hellfire and snot rockets when you twist the throttle, it is very refined yet still a lunatic, whereas the 1199 is a lunatic all the time. If you come up to ride the 1199s lmk and I'll meet you there.

Post 9 you said it feels like the 1299 pulls much harder (because it does, by all accounts)

No replacement for displacement when it comes to torque output

Thanks, I'll Definitely let you know if I set up a ride. Tomorrow I'm headed to Battleys to check out the 1299 and the s1000rr. My last 2 bikes were Ducati so I'll probably end up with another one but I didn't want to rule anything out just yet.
Thanks from b9009b

I'd get the 1299 also. Bigger displacement and the electronics. The wheels and suspension are cheap to get used.

I did and it does, but I was giving him as in did it drop me back into the bike shove my eyes into my socket feeling difference type of answer. But I also told him what i said in there my choice not having one would be the 1299.

S1000RR is a great bike but it's all top end and didn't feel as nimble/agile to me. The 1299 feels like a 600 with a stump puller engine - it's addicting. Also as shilling has mentioned, most of the power is the last 1/4 turn of the throttle. Ride it easy and it's not scary.

Fourth gear rolls against cars are comical.
