Is ticking in neutral normal?

I usually start my bike in neutral. There is no ticking when I do that, but I occasionally put in in neutral at stoplights to relax my hands or sit up. When I do that there's a loud ticking, I don't know where from exactly (down and in front of me), and I can feel it in my clutch lever. Does anyone else experience this? If so, do you know what it is or if it's normal? I ride a 1299 S
