1299 vs R1 (size and ergos)

I have a 15 R1M but feel cramped on it (6'3", 195lbs). The Pani R feels 'bigger' on the showroom but I haven't ridden it. I've been riding dirt for 20yrs (now also Harley and Supermoto bike) but this is my first sport bike and that may be part of it.

Anyone have experience on both and comment on how the 'size' difference is between them?? Thanks!

Trevor

I'm sure local folks wouldn't mind trading off for a ride so you can feel a difference vs just hearing about it which won't do anything for you since opinions as well as feel varies.

Not even close of an analogy. It's simply asking if anyone of similar size has experience on both bikes and feel less cramped on one versus the other. It's not a hard or odd request by any means.

Unfortunately I'm 5'8" so my experience won't count. The problem is there haven't been a lot of R1 test rides available compared to ducati so I'd assume you'd get more people who've test ridden the 1299/1199 and bought a R1 than the other way around

If you want a roomy Ducati I'd look at the 1x98 bikes. Those bikes have LOADS of room for a taller rider. The Panigale is comparatively cramped.

I hated that series at being 6' tall. They literally beat the crap out of tall guys on long rides.

The pani is 4X more comfy at 6' after say 700 miles in 2 days.

I'm 6'-3" and 187ish and I've never felt cramped on the Panigale.

I haven't ridden the new R1, but sat on it a few times at the dealership. The 1299 has more leg room and is more comfortable to me. I am 6'1".

I have a 1299, and rode my friend's R1M, so I have back to back experiences. I'm 5'8" so can't really comment on height, but it wasn't bad - the most comfortable R1 I've ridden, although in general I have found the R1 to be the most uncomfortable of the Japanese superbikes. What I immediately noticed though was *width*. The R1M felt miles wide, compared to the 1299. Ducatis have always been narrow and I guess I've just really gotten used to it.
