Gas tank pressure.

I purchased an aftermarket gas cap. Screw on type. Now each time I got to fill up with gas and unscrew the gas cap the pressure inside the tanks causes gas to mist all over the tank once the cap is unscrewed. Thinking about going back to the org cap or trying to figure out why this is happening with my TWM Quick Action CNC Billet Fuel Gas Cap. If anyone has some advice it would appreciated. .

I was thinking about getting any wise off cap, so let me know when you find something out. That does sound like an issue

sounds like your aftermarket gas cap doesn't retain the original gas bypass that relieves pressure from the tank from the fumes expansion

Is that because the tank is depressurised when you unscrew the cap? Had something similar on the 1199 but with the standard cap. When the tank had been refitted post service they had trapped the breather hoses. They're located at the front of the tank, RHS, might be worth checking them first.

it's very easy to kink the tank breather hoses when you take the tank off. they may look straight when you attach them, but when you lower the tank....the hoses change angle. takes some trial and error and practice to get it right every time. I can get the tank off in 2-3 minutes if I have the tools laid out first, and putting it back is just as easy...but one does have to take extra time not only with the hoses but with the rubber seal around the airbox opening.

I find it easier to drop the RHS fairing, take the ECU out of its cradle and slide them on with long nosed pliers, too fiddly otherwise for me!

Hot day in Arizona, same thing happened to me (pressurized expelling of gas mist) with the stock cap

You must still have the evap canister on.

Remove that and you won't have pressure in the tank b/c it will vent thru the tube.
