If anything, just drill a small hole in a bolt and put a loop of safety wire through it and use it as a "pull cord".

There are lots of options, but I doubt there is enough clearance on the left bolt, for that ring.
Hah, damn you're right.

Rectified

File the end of a bolt flat should prevent it from damaging any threads as it will bottom out on the case. I noticed nothing with the threads when I removed the filter cover on the M6 side.

You can also use smaller bolts from your passenger pegs.. perfect fit for this job..

I used 2 long punches about same diameter as the holes. Insert into the 2 cover holes. Squeeze the ends together with one hand while twisting and pulling. Mine came off with no problems.

Just changed my oil myself for the first time. I've changed oil in probably 70 different engines over the years and this was maybe the easiest ever as long as you have studied and learned these little secrets.

I just did my first oil change today and getting the filter cap off was truly the hardest part and not that hard at all once i found these 2 bolts in my tool case. Then used 2 small pliers to gently pull on both at the same time. I will use the zip tie method next time.

(actually putting the filler cap in was a pain in the a$$ for some reason LOL)

Thanks.

Off to buy a deep socket. Had problems with grip on my short socket for some reason the last time I changed the oil.
