Straight Swap 2015 1299S for 2017 Base R1 good deal?

Got offered a straight swap: my 2015 1299S (2016 model) for a 2017 Base R1 good deal?

Would you take it?

I am not sure. I am no psychoanalyst, but what I learnt from you in the forum is:
1, you bought the Pani for the looks, and maybe for the "Ducati hype"
2, you are not keen on riding like a racer, in fact, the slower you ride, the more chance you get to put the Pani on show
3, most of your forum time you were actually not able to ride (legally) so might not have tested the Pani enough
4, you are fond of your Harley

As the R1 is ugly as a bike can be, I don't see any benefit for you in swapping the Panigale for it. Stay a Pani owner and ride the Harley.

The Yamaha should be more reliable than the Panigale which is a good and bad thing..good thing in that you won't be having stalling issues, bad thing, in that you will be spending more time on the road increasing your chances of loosing your licence again.
Seriously, I would go for it, variety doesn't hurt and should you have Ducati withdrawal symptoms, you can always jump on the GF's Panigale.

My opinion is that you spend too much time asking for other people's opinions of what you should do. Which one gives you the bigger boner?

People that understand how to ride and understand what the Panigale is, stay with it. I have ridden for over 30 years now and 15 years of that was professionally on a track. All these bikes are good, however the Ducati is the only bike that makes me feel alive when I am riding it. I have several other bikes I can ride but I get the most enjoyment out of riding the Panigale. Sure other bike are faster others are more comfortable and more reliable. Yet I continue to find my biggest smile while riding the Duc.

For you, mileage and smiles may differ.

Test ride the R1. You might love it, you might hate it.

Mr. Shakazulu12 summed it up pretty well:

Get the R1 so your girlfriend can enjoy you lusting after her Pani and telling you that you can't ride it.
