Early days for me..... as for the comments on Ducati making clients part with there money? You guys need to meet the team from the UK who make the carbon super cars .... only difference is they build a reiliable vehicle

I'm not overly happy with my 1299 having some issues with it in the recent past so I'm not sure I will,add this pregnant looking V 4 to my collection
Will be reading with interest the comments from the older well schooled members who love the character building Ducati brings to ther boring fuking lives

I bought mine 1299S from them in November last year. In the shop now for its first service. Got a great deal for buying in the winter.

How many will buy a 1299 twin instead of new V4?

Iím fairly certain had the V4 been out when I bought my 1299, I would have gone for the V4. Iíve done about 2k miles on it and they have been some of the worst 2k miles Iíve rode in a long time. Fortunately, I have finally got my 1299S set up properly and now I love it, but it took some time and about $1000 on:

Grips and heavy barends - vibration
Tuneboy - Ride Ability
Comfort seat - iron butt
MoTool - set up sag and suspension

I think these came in order, but now that Iíve done them all the bike is amazing. Itís handles great, stops well, and the Ohlins shines on my rough roads.

With that said, Iíve been on the V4 and it probably needs less to make it rideable, which would likely be setting up the suspension. I like the dash and electronics better on the V4, however the 1299S is the better looking bike.

I'll Take the 1299 S Thank You!

We were down to this very question about 6 months ago! The 1299 S won. Tons of midrange and I have no reason to doubt that the top end is likewise, too! When we had the first service done, we also had the full Akrapovic race system installed and wow - what a bike! It weighs 394 lbs (no fuel in the tank) and feels a lot like a mid size bike after having the suspension set up! I'm really happy with the 1299 S - what a bike!

Good luck with your decision and have a ton of fun on whichever way you go!

I've got to admit, my 1299s sees ZERO reasons to trade up to the v4s.
As a matter of fact, this article from motorcycle.com has me steamed!!
The V4S was the greatest bike to come along since the term "SUPERBIKE" was invented.
Now, it handles with "bucking and movement..." compared to the RSV4 that has had the same chassis design for 10 years !!! Ahahahahahaaa!!! Ok...the king is dead, long live the king! Caveat Emptor and all that jazz...
...bottom line is, buy what ya want, not because one Ducati is better than the other, but because it makes you happy!

I started this thread a long time ago. I still have my 2012 1199 and I'd love to find a deal on a leftover 1299. I'm about to retire and am not interested in a $22,000 V4, especially given that I have to rotate three bikes and a couple of nice cars. Doing that in retirement will be a little more painful. I can still afford decent rides, but not trading as often as I used to.

But my other reason for wanting a 1299 is that even as I'm about to turn 66 I still love riding my 1199 and I find the ergos really have worked well for me. Not sure I want to take a chance with ergos on a different super sport bike. I realize I can keep the 1199, but I'm at the point where maintence is starting to to get more frequent in terms of stuff wearing out. Right now it needs a new slave cylinder. Last year it was a new battery, radiator, chain, and sprockets.

I thought about a new "Supersport", but damn, 115hp? Don't think I can go from 195 to 115.

Somehow I doubt I'll get much sympathy though
