1299 R Final Edition

Hi All
Iím new here but looking for some advise for me and my dad. We have a small celection of mostly old dukes, bevels and pantahs, but dad is now considering to buy either a 1199 superlegerra or a 1299r final edition. He wants something special to say goodbye to the twin Superbike.
so some questions for everyone. what exactly is different from the 1299 superlegerra motor and the 1299 R final edition motor? Everywhere says itís nearly the same spec motor but no one runs through what expactly is different.
Also what are peopleís thoughts on the 1199 superlegerra vs 1299R final edition? What dose dose everyone think will be more fitting to own for a goodby to the twin Superbike and what might be more Desireable in 20years time if that was ever forcasterable. As that is what he is considering to buy.
Clearly he would love a 1299 superlegerra but the few for sale are definitely out of his price bracket.
Any thoughts and help are appreciated
Thanks Josh

If it was me I would go for the 1199SL or a new 1199R. The FE with red wheels and weird exhaust system does not do it for me.

Thanks, that was my origianl feeling too. Dad like the idea of having the final edition and also its a new bike, rather than 2014. But now i think we have swopped. So he asked me to get sone thoughts here because he canít make up hos mind.

Thanks Josh

Healesville Josh, nice part of the world.

If I had money to spend.

FE, paint the wheels and put a nice race exhaust on it.

If money is no object, because in Australia it will be another $40,000 1299SL also with a killer exhaust. Job done

Thanks heaps for your input, yes a 1299 superlegerra would be the pick but not an option at the price
Still pretty excited about the fact of either as both are going to be nuts.

I would buy one of the SL, there will not likely be another as light with that much power.

To answer your questions about the difference between the 1299 SL engine and the one of the FE.
There are only two differences.

1) The SL features a sand cast engine housing, while the FE has a "standard" housing.

2) The SL comes with AL cylinder liners, while the FE has steel cylinder liners.
All the rest is exactly the same.

Although Ducati claims 209 BHP for the FE and 215 BHP for the SL, the real output is the same for both, because the 215 BHP of the SL were measured in a different way (and, in Germany at least, the SL shows only 209 BHP in the official registration documents).

If you watch the Ducati World Premire of the SL on youtube you can see at 3:43 that the power curve ends at 209 BHP, while the text says 215.

I own a FE and did not regret the purchase, as this is the very final model of the V2 and riding it is so demanding and enjoyable.

My Opinion: The only bike who can beat the FE would be the 1299 SL, for twice the price.
AND, I do like the design of the FE. When you see it in real, you will understand what I mean.
Thanks from bradp51 and 1299rFE

I also have the FE and got the race exhaust put in. Love the bike and those red wheels actually looks good in person. You have to see this bike in person to know what I mean.
As for the HP well 209 stock and I am guessing 219 or more with the exhaust. Plus your also losing another 15IB plus when adding the race exhaust
Thanks from bradp51 and TOBTEK
