Lower Triple Clamp

I've broken a steering stop lug and am looking to get it fabricated and welded back on, basically its a bit less than half the price of a new one for the job. Anyone got some advice on whether welding weakens the casting.
The other question is whats the best way to support the bike when removing the front end as I cant see anywhere for the stand to go. Can you lift the bike on the sump?

I used a Bursig lift to support the bike. The stock triple is shit. CNC Racing makes a really nice triple and you can buy just the lower and stem if you don't want to swap the upper. You will never break the stops again.

Or there is a bolt on peice available for a few dollars that replaces the broken OEM stops. It uses the threaded hole allready there . Wouldnt need to pull the clamps out either.

Check this out:

I broke off a stop and used this. Range of steering is fractionally less, but for my track bike it was a non issue.

Thanks for the advice, probably just weld it as its for road used and need the already limited range! Any thoughts on jacking the bike up and what loctite is best to use on the screws?

This does not reduce the steering angle:

if you weld it...next time you break one of the clamps. so, it is not worth in my opinion.

Cheap solution, seems like you cant use the steering lock but I presume you could trim them. The energy of a fall has to go somewhere, I wonder if the fork tubes would get dented instead.

I will go with Chris16 on this. On the RG pieces you get a positive stop and you are not going to damage anything. They are light weight and easy to install. The bump stops are removable (slide out) from the bracket. I got a stick of 3/4 black Delrin and made my own custom length stops for my application as the multi switch units I use needed a custom fit so they would not hit the tank. If anyone has the RG pieces and needs a custom length R/L stop, drop me a PM and I will make you a set. No charge, takes 5 min.

Does anyone what part of the bike do these stops touch — is it the forks?
