Smoke on startup

Just got a Panigale 1298S that's only done 1500 miles.
I've noticed it smokes a little on start up but clears after 10 sec or less... Is this normal?.. I'm used to honda lol..

Well depends. Was it the bike just started and only permitted to run for a few minutes? Or was the bike properly warmed up and ridden? These bike have MASSIVE pistons and do not like to be started and shut down right after only running for a few minuets. (showing off to the neighbor your cool new bike.) So in other words if you run the bike, ride it and get everything up to temp and then shut it off. You can start it 3 months later and it will start with zero smoke. However if you treat it like a Starbucks bike and start and rev the piss out of it and shut it down cold. Yeah it's gonna smoke.

I have a six year old 1199. I recently noticed it smoking just on start up for ten seconds or so. Long story, but the bike had sat for a couple of months due to surgery (me, not the bike) and I was starting the bike in the garage, which I did not normally do.

The owner of the dealer is a long time friend, and he has a great Ducati mechanic. They both told me it’s normal. So I topped the oil to exactly the line and recorded the mileage. 1040 miles later I topped it off again. It took 8 oz. That is one quart in 4,000 miles.

I’m convinced now it has probably been doing it for a while. But most of my rides on it are very early Sunday mornings so I push the bike down the driveway and ride off as soon as the bike starts to avoid pissing off the neighbors TOO much.

If I were you I would do the same. Top it off and record the mileage then top it off again in 1,000 miles.
