Question New owner question

I bought a 2015 1299S a couple weeks ago with 1600 miles on it. It came with a full Akrapovic exhaust on it that I have to replace with the stock exhaust to get it through the Maryland state inspection. The previous owner did provide the stock exhaust, minus a few bits and bobs that I have to order from Ducati (springs, screws, washers, etc).

I'm trying to figure out how the stock rear header heat shield attaches to the rear subframe. The two bolts through the passenger pegs is obvious. What's not clear from the workshop manual, the Akra instructions, or the parts listing diagrams is the front attachment point. There's a mustache-shaped white silicone piece that sits between the heat shield and the subframe. I don't have any other parts for this, but from the shop manual it looks like there is supposed to be a rubber fitting that goes over the top of the silicone piece, plus a metal washer and a screw. I'm guess that the washer and screw attach to the shield from the top of the subframe to provide a third attachment point. Is that correct?

I’m surprised they did that. When I lived in MD I’d go to the station in Annapolis and they didn’t care about things like that.

Did you try to pass inspection with Akra exhaust first

No. The shops I use are by-the-book with inspections. A cat-free exhaust isn't going to fly. Besides, I want to try it with the stock exhaust. The Akra makes my brain bleed, and it pisses off my neighbors.

Its pretty simple; in this order from top to bottom

allen head screw
metal penny washer
silicone penny washer

which sits above the subframe then;

silicone mustache
heatshield

But I would just try putting the baffles in, with a bit of scrunched up chicken mesh and fibreglass rovings behind them if necessary

I Ride: All of them
The stock exhaust on these is not exactly quiet. It is the loudest stock exhaust i've ever heard on a sport bike actually.

Got it. Thanks, Paul. Just waiting on Ducati to ship the parts now.

If the stock exhaust isn't significantly quieter than the Akra, then I'll probably put the Akra back on and relegate this bike to track duty, which...really wouldn't bother me. I find my ZX10 to be much more enjoyable on the street anyway.
