So bottom line the 899 one is lighter because it's the entire assembly on the bike that matters, not just the raw swingarm.
I'm going to go ahead and call it. One day, a hero will be born and he will defy the flock by transplanting a dual-sided swing arm onto their 1199... They will be king among men!

Single sided swing arms are primarily used in endurance racing as it greatly facilitates rear wheel changing etc. and has become a Ducati design signature. The 1199 would have been even lighter if it had a (same length) double sided swing arm.

If I could have used my BST rear wheel on a double sided swing arm and if the 899's swing arm was the same length (not shorter) the Dragon Lady would have sported one already.

Do the wheels from an 1199s/r fit the 899 and the marzocchis from the base 1199? Thanks

I can't say for certain, but I am pretty sure you can't swap the rear wheels. The 899 is a 180/60 and the 1199 has a 200/55. That is why if you put the single sided swing arm on the 899, you have to replace your wheel with one from the 1199.

Damn. So is there a decent new lighter wheel option for the 899?
