Arrow ducati 899 paint care strategy

For all you new 899 owners.

Be advised.
That the paint is not COB.
It is single stage paint, and should be treated as such.
In effect it's an old school paint process.

If you spill fuel on it or leave solvents of any kind or alcohol on it.
It will easily potentially show discolouration.
Treat with utmost care.

When polishing the paint, expect colour to come off onto the cloth.
Choose your paint care strategy and products with care.

Moderators.
This information should be a sticky if possible, for all prospective new owners of the 899.
Thanks from duc, Montfort, BigBoost and 3 others

And just to confirm, this process only applies to the 899 model?

In the Pani lineup.
Yes.
It's not the only DUCATI with this paint system, from what I've seen.
But I could be wrong as it's unconfirmed.

The paint on the 1199 is definitely COB.
It's confirmed in the owners manual.
Thanks from Montfort

So the 899 does not have this to cut costs?

That's the only logical conclusion I can come to

it is after all, possibly regarded as an economy model by DUCATI.
Where as the 1199 is clearly a flagship model it all it's variants.

Eh the paint on the 1199 gets very easily scuffed and scratched if its any consolation. I have a cob on my Harley and nothing short of a bullet will scratch that.

True enough

There's hard and soft paint formulations.
I think if one wants more paint durability on these bikes. Then a harder wearing formulation of clear coat will have to be sprayed over the top of the existing paint

This thread is useless without suggestions on how to care properly for a single stage, water based paint job for all the people who do not know how.

Personally, I'm just not going to let it bother me. When the time comes, I'll just have a local hot rod shop do a polish for me to bring it back. Until then, I'll ride without any concern.

Alex
