Motoholder 2 day install nightmare

So I got my Motoholder subframe and figured it couldn't be that hard to install. I started my install around 3 on Sunday. What a fucking disaster.

I got the rear end disassembled easy enough. The lower two, notably the left lower bolt, of the subframe is a tight fit but you can get to it with some extenders.

So, the Motoholders doesn't come with jack ****. No bolts, instructions, you name it. I remember hearing that you need to replace two bolts and I quickly figured out it is the lower bolts that are off. You need something almost twice the length. I went to the store and tried to bolt everything up.

First tried the stock bolts on the upper part. I finally heard the most heart wrenching sound. *crack*

Yep, I cracked the bolt and half if it is stuck in the engine block. Holy ****. Did I just ruin a $30k+ bike? **** my life.

It was not a clean break and had no flat surface to use an easy out.

I was so depressed.

I looked online and none of the advice was working. But then I stumbled on someone talking about EDM. I thought that was music, but apparently it was my savior. I called a local EDM at 8:00 just trying to find their hours but a lady picked up. They said they could come out for $350 to fix it. I asked if I could get it cheaper if I went there, she said yep, so I promised to be there in the morning.

Loaded the bike up in the truck and went to bed.

I didn't even have to take the bike out the truck and she finished the job in 30 minutes. Charged me $100 and fixed the threads. Couldn't be happier.

Sadly the day wasn't over. Took me at least 10 trips to the hardware store to get all the **** bolts. Half the time I just got the wrong size. Future refrence for you guys, get m8x1.25 and 3" long bolt. It is going to probably be a hex head, and you will need one thin washer to make it flush.

The rest of the install went relatively smoothly. Just took forever due to the number of trips to the hardware store. Turns out you need new nuts and bolts for every god **** thing.

Overall, all is good with the bike. The subframe is WAY lighter. I will report back on 4/5 to see if it is noticeable when riding.

I shed the heat shield since I am ceramic coated and track only. That was also annoying getting off, but that is done.

Yeah I think the 899 is different. Worked out though.

The subframe is not a straight bolt on for the 899. Jarel referenced this when he installed his on his 899 track bike last year.

Exactly.

Good news is the 899 sub is even heavier than the 1199 stocker so it should be a big difference.

Unless my scale is busted, the stocker is just shy of 8.5 lbs and the new one is a bit under 3.

straightforward swap on the 1199 for me. I use the motoholders subframe to swap between track and street body work.

A Pivot head torx wrench set makes it really easy to get to the bottom bolt on the right side.

You're correct, stock is ~8.5 lbs. and the Motoholders is 2.75 lbs.
