Disable Exhaust valve?

On the 959, is this a common mod?

Was wondering if it had any downsides, other than a little more noise from the stock exhaust at lower RPM...

I have done it on other bikes to get rid of some surging at the area where the valves opens and closes, plus some bikes it gets stuck, or squeaks after a few thousand miles, etc...

If it has no performance deficit and all one has to do is disconnect the cable from the valve itself, I will probably want to do this unless someone has a sound reason not to...

When you pull off the cable, does it keep the valve in the open position?

Most bikes have the spring tension set up so that if there is a failure of some sort, the valve stays open, rather than being stuck shut...

Thoughts?

Yes it will stay open when you disconnect the cable, but pull the bottom fairings and fan housing to gain access and get rid of the lot. No code errors or problems and you'll shed some weight as well.

Fan housing? Where is the servo? I was thinking that for simplicity's sake I would just pull the cable and leave it all intact, in case for whatever reason I had to take it in for warranty work or needed to "reverse" the mod...

Pulled the cable, and what is weird is that when I turn the bike on, and then start it up, the cable doesn't pull up inside. It doesn't seem to do that startup sequence where it operates the valve and verifies the "start and stop" points on the valve...

Maybe that's why this bike doesn't throw a code when you unhook the cable?

Just keep in mind that deactivating the valve will exacerbate the lean surging from 3,000 to 6,000 rpm. It will be more noticeable in Race Mode where the throttle response is more sensitive.
