New owner saying hi.

I just got a 2019 Pikes Peak and thought I'd drop in and say "hi". I had a 2011 Multistrada 1200 S (black with the carbon beak) and loved it. However, back then, I was starting to do more trips off-road and it was not great for that (to say the least).

I sold the Multistrada, got a KTM Adventure, rode that for a few years, didn't ride for a few more, sold it, got another Adventure recently and a Husky 701 soon after. Weirdly, the Husky has lead me back to the Multistrada: it turns out that for me, there's a ton of overlap between the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R and the Husky. The Husky is actually really comfortable on the freeway and doesn't have any more vibration at speed (up to 70 or so) than the KTM. Of course, it's much better off-road. I'm in the process of adding an auxiliary fuel tank to the Husky, which will close one gap.

So I decided to ditch the KTM and end up with two bikes: Multistrada and Husky. (Actually, I'm just about to put up the KTM for sale; let me know if you're interested.)

I'm amazed at what a big difference there is between the 2011 Multistrada and the 2019. I remember the 2011 being super, super fun: the best ride I've ever had was on it on the way to Death Valley, going through Sequoia National Park along Hwy 198. But it was kind of industrial, particularly at low revs. I jumped on the 2019 last night to take it home - without even a test ride! - and was blown away at how smooth it is at all revs. I would have liked electronic suspension - there's a lot of crappy roads where I love - but the Pikes Peak version is very cool looking.

I'm now looking for a tail tidy and tank bag for the bike but mostly I'm just going to ride the heck out of it.

Hi Fergus,
I also just picked-up a Multi 1260 Pikes Peak.
It's going to be a long three months before I get to ride it.
I would have liked an electronic suspension as well but wanted the forged wheels and the Termi even more.

I had the same dilemma. I love the look of the Pikes Peak but the truth is that the regular version would probably have been a smarter choice. Oh well! Still glad I got it.

For the past two years, my dealer kept lending me demo's even when my bikes were not in for service. "Try this one, then try that one". More often than not, I picked the Multi 1200. Consequently, I've had the opportunity to put several hundreds of miles on the Multi. I just loved the handling of the bike but was concerned with the new iteration having a more relaxed geometry. Thus the forged wheels to compensate. Of course the bling of the Pikes Peak goes without further comments.

Dar, I was curious about the new geometry as well. I'd like to hear your impressions on how it compares to the old once you get some miles on it. Have fun.

I Ride: '18 1260 Pikes Peak and '19 V4R on order
Congratulations on your new Pikes Peak!

I also purchased a '18 1260 Pikes Peak recently (about 1000 miles so far). I had a tricked out '14 1200 Pikes Peak before that Ducati purchased back. The '14 was very twitchy at speed and in the corners when pushed hard. The '18 with longer wheelbase and suspension are amazing! The longer wheelbase adds stability at speed and in the corners. The Ohlins on the '18 is incredible once you get it all adjusted in to your liking. Mine came with everything backed way off, make sure to set it all up properly. My only gripe on either bike is dragging the pegs in corners. The '18 Ohlins suspension can handle much higher corner speeds with amazing confidence over the twitchy '14.

.
Thanks from FergusH
