Ducati corporate to communicate directly with Ducati V4 owners with deposits?

I was told by my dealer that apparently Ducati has had quite a backlash before when bikes do not arrive at dealers on time. So with the V4, once a deposit is in, the buyer would get a "portal" or an app where one can track the progress of the build and shipping of the bike all the way until it arrives at the dealer.

Any truth to this that anyone has heard of? I haven't received anything yet and my order was the first order from the dealer. They said Ducati corporate is supposed to reach out directly.

I Ride: Shopping for a new track bike...
Not likely, we don't even get that level of information as dealers. I think what they are doing differently this time, is they're only offering up the number of bikes they can produce to the dealers on the initial allocation, rather than allowing dealers to order as many as they "want" and then having their allocation cut after not enough are produced to fill the orders. But there's still no visibility of a particular bike that has been ordered by a dealer as it's proceeding through production at the factory, we don't know about a particular bike until it's on a boat headed across the Atlantic, and we don't know the VIN# of the bike until it's been unloaded at the port in New Jersey and transferred to UPS Freight for delivery.

My dealer told me they may possibly be using the SL type of deposit structure for the Speciale but would find out this week. They are hoping to get two mine being the second one.

I was told something similar when going through the SL buying process. Not that there would be an app, but that Ducati corporate would be in touch early on. I didn't hear anything at all until I was invited to the track day, which was disappointing. However, the communication from there and the amount of work that went into the track day and factory tour made up for the lack of communication 100x.

I did have a conversation with Jason Chinnock at a different event and he told me he was making a hard push to improve US delivery times. He promised me mine by August and that is when it came. I was the second SL order at my dealer and mine was the second to arrive.

Moral of the story is I wouldn't get your hopes up for real clarity and it will come when it comes, likely with yours being first to your dealer.

They didn’t say anything about communication just that additional deposits may be needed to secure the purchase.

That's what I thought. Which is why I thought it was unusual when I heard that so thought I'd ask. Oh well no biggie. It'll come when it comes. Thanks jarelj!

Well if they use the same process that Porsche does, then once a dealer gets an allocation you get a confirmed order with deposit and then you get as estimated build date. Then you flip it all and make money!! yea!!!!

"Ducati Corporate" and "communicate" are not typically seen in the same sentence.

For the 1199SL at least, dealers would wire in deposits and submit customer details in order to reserve a bike. From what I know, at DNA at least, it was a very manual task, checking bank wires, verifying customer details with each dealer and tracking details by spreadsheet. Some dealers got caught making up fake customers in order to get more units.
