V4S vs. Speciale

OK, folks, would anyone like to talk me into the Speciale over the V4S (with full Akra exhaust)?

The price difference is about $6,000. There are some cosmetic differences, and the limited edition could help maintain value. Any other issues to consider? I like the looks of both.

Cheers,

JK

It's really up to your personal tastes. Do you want a limited edition paint scheme and numbered triple clamp S model that comes with the Akrapovic full exhaust and some other DP cosmetic, bike cover and track based goodies? If you don't care about the goodies other than the exhaust - get the S. It is a similar argument for the base model vs. S; e.g.: Showa and lead battery vs. Ohlins electronic suspension 2.0 and li ion battery.

If you build a V4S up to a Speciale all the parts will depreciate pretty much immediately and won't be easily reflective in the resale value or insurance replacement should the V4S be crashed or stolen..

That's an interesting point. How you get to having the extra parts will reflect on resale/replacement value. I hadn't considered that. I want the Akra exhaust either way; perhaps the immediate depreciation on getting that for the S model could defray in large part the extra cost for the residual difference between the S and Speciale.

My advice....

Wait a year. If you still want a speciale buy a used low mile one and let one if the other suckers take the depreciation when they trade it in on the r model. Also, if you wait you can decide if you want the r or not. Lastly ....first year production bike...let them work out the kinks.

Just my take on it

In my opinion there’s nothing special about the Speciale. Essentially its a Tri Colore and the only one of those that hold value it seems it the 1098S Tri. The Panigale Tri doesn’t seem to do very well, and don’t get it twisted, I love these. You are better off waiting for the R if you’re considering value.

At the end the day yes it’s a numbered bike but, The only time you’ll see value is 30 years from now when you could say you have one of the first year. 2018 is a nice number

Frankly I feel like Ducati is getting carried away with all these specialty bikes… It’s taking away from the real Significant limited edition bikes.

Like the Panigale Final Edition and the Anniversario ...Those could’ve been the same damn bike LOL.

Completely agree with the first line.
Second line I don't know about though - those bikes are very different in many ways. Even different as far as engine. Besides - one is an anniversary bike and one is a final edition and so they might have been able drop them the same year but since they came out more a year apart I don't know that they could have melted the anniversary edition and the final edition together.

Yeh they seem to be forgetting the uniqueness of limited edition bikes, i guess being owned by VW now means its all about bringing in the moolah.
Proper limited edition bikes to me are something like the Desmo RR, or the MV Agusta Zagato. Either unique by engine or body.
