Man that CF tank cover looks amazing. I gotta say I wasn't a big fan of the looks at first but with that cover all I would need would be a CF subframe cover and a new exhaust to make this bike absolutely gorgeous.
Hope a CF subframe cover and a nice (smaller) aftermarket underbelly exhaust will be out sooner rather than later.

Great review brother.
Thanks for taking the time!

Thanks for the review, will be interesting to hear how you are getting on with the V4 after a few more miles and more track time.

Yeah, I really like the look of the bike. If they just had a few bits here and there to break up the all over red, it can look really good. The Speciale looks bad ass.

I was just pondering what you said about the 1299SL dead even with the V4..
1299SL has about same peak hp 215 or so..Weighs like what 45 lbs less and with rider weights maybe 75 lbs less??? Hmmmmm

I initially thought the speciale looked amazing but I actually starting to think its not all that good of a scheme. Remembering some of the photoshop schemes on this site, many of them looked absolutely incredible and much better than the speciale in my opinion. For instance the Anniversario paint job. Obviously they can use that again, but there were many great options.
Main thing for me is to color match that darn subframe to either the clutch cover etc. or to the black parts. Also the standard exhaust is obviously an eyesore, but other than those few things it's really starting to come around on me and I haven't even seen it in person yet.

I loved the front and the back right off the bat, but the side profile is taking some getting used to for me.

Yep. And this was a tracked out 1299SL.. i.e. no headlights/taillights and all the unnecessary bits. I'm shooting to drop about 15-20lbs personally and then the V4 minus lights and stock exhaust should also drop some additional weight as well.

I’m still waiting to hear what it is about this bike that might lead to lower lap times vs a built R. Not asking anyone to answer that...just thinking out loud. Or, for that matter...if the goal is to drop lap times, why build one of these up vs an R1....

Sorry to take a critical view...sincerely appreciate the write-up! Just what’s going thru my head these days....

Great write up MotoX! Glad your enjoying it and you had it on the track to really give a proper initial shakedown and report back. Like Twisted said, no way in hell your gonna give a review worth a shit cruising to Starbucks.
