I Ride: all the bikes....
V4/S impressions

The V4/S is a improvement over the 1199/1299 in the following ways.....

1.) The seat/subframe interface.

The bike has a larger area where the knees connect with the tank and the stock seat has better grip and it is slightly flatter - both very good things to keep connection to the bike so the arms can remain relaxed!

2.) The pegs are slippery as usual but Rizoma has made some Ducati Performance rearsets with real adjustments this time.

3.) The power is smooth and linear with no perceptible spikes or dips.

4.) The on/off transition between closed throttle and roll on is very smooth; something the R1/M seems to lack but the Aprilia has sorted better than any other brand.

5.) The new design Supercorsa SP V3s have incredible grip.

The rear tire is 5 mm taller in ride height than a 200/60 Pirelli Superbike slick and 8 mm taller than a DOT 200/55 SC compound race tire! No joke, I measured them (see https://www.instagram.com/p/BgFcv4dB...by=brianhevans)

*** Keep that in mind if you track the V4 with race tires - an adjustment will be needed to maintain OEM geometry; fortunately the Ohlins shock is adjustable for length but the adjustment is not easy to get to.

6.) The bike feels lighter! Despite weighing about 10 pounds more than the 1299 Panigale S the side-to-side transitions due to the reverse-rotating crankshaft will make this bike less tiring to ride at the track.

7.) The kickstand is harder to reach and the rear linkage does not have an option that is flat.

8.) The kill time on upshifts is better (shorter) than before but still a bit too much time between gears 1 and 2. The auto-blip on downshift is as good as any other top bike and works flawlessly! I tried several high-speed, rapid 3 gear downshifts without any squirm from the rear tire or missed rev match.

There are two types of riders; those that need feel from the front or a connection between the throttle and the rear tire to feel what the rear tire is doing; confidence is the catalyst for speed in my opinion....fortunately this bike has BOTH!

Due to the longer swingarm the weight is biased towards the front; combined with the new frame this makes the front of the bike more communicative than a 1199/1299. Fortunately the rear grip is quite good due to the SC2 compound on the sides and the NEW tire profile provides MORE grip.

Lots of reviews out on this bike right now but none of them have mentioned some of these points so I thought this might help some prospective buyers out there.

I have a base V4 on the way and I already plan to put a spare set of Superleggera forks and left-over 1199R wheels on it straight away. For me the electronic suspension wasn't worth it but as many others have reported, it is a game changer (although the new R1M will have it and last year's Honda SP/2 already has it, unfortunately for the Honda they have tied wheelie control to traction control).

For most riders who don't want to get it tuned or don't know the "art" of suspension tuning this second version of electronic suspension will help those riders to focus on becoming better riders....I think this is the most Japanese of all Ducati motorcycles made to date.

Great review, man. I wasn't aware of the tire size/profile difference between the Supercorsa SP V3 vs. the Pirelli SBK slick.

As for the rest, I'd have to agree.
