Have you had any problems starting your 1299SL from cold? With mine I have to hit the starter for 5-6 seconds several times then turn the key off/on and then try again several times before it starts. No problem when its hot though.

Yes I had that problem too. Was very embarrassing when people see your $100k won’t start. I raised this issue to my dealer at first service and they ran some diagnostics and reset “something” and the problem has been extremely rare now.

I've heard removing the charcoal canister helps alleviate stalling issues. I've never experienced this on the 959 but the stalling issue has happened on the V4, it only happened once or twice on the same day within an hour time frame.

So 3 v4's delivered in my city. 1 S (mine) and 2 base models. All 3 are experiencing stalling issues, some worse than others. Mine seem to be the least affected so far (knock on wood). One of the base model bikes stalled at idle and wouldn't start back up. Had to be towed to the dealer. Looks like the throttle bodies are out of balance slightly.

Sheesh. I hope this is minor and fixed soon. I am in a hurry like many other folks and have my Speciale on order. Others advise to wait a year or so to get the bugs out of a dramatically new model, and I hope they aren't right in this case!

Stalling issues seem to be common for new Duc models until they get the bugs worked out. Luckily it usually just ends up being an ECU update.

Geez, that's why I'm waiting for the 1st year bugs to get sorted out.

I know the charcoal canister was a culprit for hard starts when hot but this seems like a mapping issue. Please keep us posted if you find out what the cause is.

My 2016 1299S would stall if it was hot and I coasted with the clutch in.. 2nd yr model with the 1299 displacement, but basically the same as the 1199's for the most part.

Removed the charcoal canister and never stalled again after that.

My V4 base has stalled once in a parking lot after starting it up following a meal after a long day's worth of riding. The bike was very hot when it happened.

Had my 600 mile service done today and the dealership said their V4S had a similar issue and removing the evap canister fixed it. I asked if they could remove mine, to which they replied not legally, but the evap canisters have a way of mysteriously falling off during maintenance.

Following the service, they said my evap canister situation is "fixed." Already noticed an improvement in idling, especially on a full tank. Hopefully this means it's just the same issue all the other Panigales had.
