I see them for around $30.

Is it dumb to buy K&N version for $14 instead?

Why cant they incorporate a stand alone screw in filter instead of having to deal with a oil filter cap?

Filters are the same BUT Ducati lists a different part number for the rubber O-rings on the filter.

88650761A - Panigale V4 O-Rings
88650561A - Superquadro O-Rings

I am not certain as to why that is, but I am inquiring, if I find out I'll let everyone know. For now, I'd say to be safe make sure you use the listed O-rings for the V4.

I DO get it on spending money on oil filters, especially if you have a track or race bike and are changing your oil A LOT like many of us do! I'm not going to tell you what's "dumb" but I can tell you that there have been warranty issues in the past with non-OEM oil filters being used on Ducatis. It even got to the point at one time that we got a bulletin from Ducati warning about oil pressure issues being discovered and tracked back to aftermarket oil filters, and urging us to warn customers about the risks of non-OEM filters. The issue was specifically with filters having too much filter material inside of them and restricting oil pressure. Some might say "Of course, because Ducati wants you to buy their filter", which ok it's fair to say that, but that's not the way Ducati would normally go about trying to promote their products so I perceived it as a valid concern and we only use OEM Ducati filters because "safe than sorry" and all that.

And I know have confirmation that the O-Rings are indeed very different due to the oil filter cover being different, so you will need the correct O-Rings for the V4, you can't use the Superquadro O-Rings. FYI

V4 has a very advanced lubrication circuit, with three oil pumps and a very complicated oil circuit. I think a normal oil cartridge may explode. Maybe this is the reason.

Honestly, I prefer the cap and the filter being inside the motor vs. outside. It's waaaay easier for track prep and less janky than a hose clamp on an external filter and then safety wiring that.

I can just drill (or buy) the bolts and safety wire together. Much cleaner.

Thanks Jarel for clarifying. I presume the O rings are the o rings that seal the cap which is very different from the last bike .
