I Ride: Ducati V4 / 1199 / 1098 / 796
Honestly just think you need to get used to it. Completely different kind of ride -

Exact same thing here when I went to Welkom last month - I found myself shifting to early as my ear was so tuned-in to the twin's rev range, and trying to use the same gears for the same corners and realizing that I was hardly using all the new head room.

Getting there though was the problem because of the tall gearing - so I first tried using a lower gear in each corner, and it immediately put me back on pace even with no suspension tweaking and/or updates and still in road trim. Was crazy having to trust the bike that much, spinning up and wheeling everywhere. The biggest problem now though, was that I had to pass neutral for the now 1st gear hairpin.

I dropped a tooth on the front and slapped on a 55 instead of 60 to try and correct it. Havent tested it yet though.

For me, the bike definitely turns easier and keeps the line way better than previous bike, especially on exit.

Going back to Welkom next week!!!

power is not everything.
pretty sure ducati didn't produce a slower bike to the previous generation but lets see how it stacks up when it starts racing.

I Ride: Panigale V4S
The FE has a far better power to weight ratio........

I think he means to say that the 1299 won some comparisons against other manufacturers when it came out and the V4 hasn't won any yet . It's still irrelevant as these magazine comparisons don't mean much !

I could attribute that to stiffer competition now or lack of competition then.

The only thing I will concede is the Kawis are bullying the crap outta ducati as shown in WSBK.

All the comparisons I saw that listed times had the V4 like a second or more ahead of the 1299 in lap time. Not sure which comparison he watched.

I have not seen one of these yet at the tracks I frequent, but this weekend is a Ducati revs the Capitol event, so I am thinking there will be a chance.

I had a 1299 and thought it was a huge disappointment. I thought better ways to channel heat away from the rider were overlooked after replacing the 1199. 1299 was just more of the same thing with some mid range. 40k for a FE that ridiculous when the V4 Speciale is priced the same.
The V4 with the software updates is a much better bike.

The heat only really matters if you ride the street in traffic. Were I to buy a 1299 or a v4, it would be a dedicated track bike. I have an 899 now that is a dedicated track bike; before I took it off the street, I never really noticed the heat because I ATGATT.
