V4s won't start - brand new

Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a new V4S yesterday from my local dealer.

When I went to leave my office last night to go home and it was turning over but not starting. It finally started after about 5 minutes of trying.
The same thing happened this morning.

Funny thing is it also sounds like there is engine knock once it does start (until it warms up)
Also, it seems to only be an issue when the engine is cold... after I'm able to start it once, it seems as though I can turn it off and start it back up again effortlessly.
I'm worried about damaging a brand new bike that I am trying to "break in"..

Luckily, I let my dealer know earlier today and they've already taken steps get it in to fix it... very frustrated, though...Less than 100km's on it...
I've owned two 899's and never had such issues.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen to me. It wouldn't start early in the morning on the second day of ownership. I tried starting it ten times and I could smell the fuel so I then hit the starter with the throttle wide open and away she went. I brought it in and they didn't find any codes or problems with the O2 sensors. I put about 400kms. on it the first day so I know the fuel was good. It just didn't like the cooler weather start. I also ran it in stop and go traffic when the temp was 34C. and boy it didn't like that either. It was like the cylinders were cutting in and out with the bike trying to buck me off of it. It finally cleared out when I was able to get moving again on the highway. The dealership said he hopes they have a new mapping by spring time because they've had a couple of them do the same thing including their demo unit...

So we wait....

I Ride: 13, white 1199 S, 10 Husaberg 450FE
these Italians are such screw ups, when hot the first panigales would not start and we all bypassed the smog carbon canister, solving the issue.

Sounds like yours is as leaf said rich, could be many things at this point, sounds like you/dealer will figure this out soon enough.

Make sure and post back details for others

I'm having the same issue. If I leave it for a week or so, it takes me 5 minutes to start the bike. Then after that and even the next day, it will start right up. Its super annoying.

I had this issue a couple thousand miles in with my bike. The first few times, it was a throttle position error. Make sure the throttle is fully shut when you first turn on/start the bike. If you have a helmet or something hanging on the throttle and it's slightly cracked when you turn it on, it might not start correctly.

After that, it didn't happen again until I was forced to get gas from a station I'm not a big fan of going to. Got some issues with starting, didn't know what it was, they eventually resolved themselves. A week or two later, had to get gas from there again (it's right outside my house, so if I push it a little longer than I'd like, I'd have to fill up there on the way to work), and the problem came back.

Ran some seafoam through the tank and never got gas from there again. The problem went away and hasn't come back after a couple thousand more miles. Seems like the fuel injectors on this bike are very, very sensitive to bad gas and clog up easily.

Please do, I'm convinced our bikes are the same issue. Do you have throttle spacers installed?

I posted a video of mine doing it in the v4 Facebook group.

Please do NOT put seaform on these bikes, please. The fuel system is electronic controlled. Seaform is a very strong agent, a lot of plastic parts in these machines. Seaform can damage micro mesh filter... all sorts of stuff.
