So Akra can suck as much money out of us for as long as possible. I’m sure a few years down the road it’ll be available for the public to buy.

I think you can get an upmap from the dealer even though it's second hand. Doesn't make sense that Ducati wouldn't allow it.

I'm sure it's a matter of paying the dealer labor time to hook up the computer and entering the Akra info. I don't think anybody has tried a second hand install and upmap yet to confirm this.

If Ducati really wanted to enforce the "one upmap active per exhaust" then there's gotta be a way to deactivate from the original bike and move to the new bike via dealer computer.

I know that the ecu can keep both factory map and Akra map because the Speciale comes like this. It's just a matter up choosing the file set via Ducati. So in theory the original bike that had the Akra would have the Akra upmap disabled and thus allowing the new owner to activate at another Ducati dealer? At least that's how I think it should work if a straight download is not possible.

That's a bummer...

If that's true then it's borderline illegal. The kit was bought with rights to the upmap and the owner should be able to sell to another with the same. With proof of purchase or product verification of course.

Original owner still has the map installed. Can't deactivate it unless taken to the dealer. Too much work for Ducati to bother. Easy way = "sorry we can't."

So many people who have zero clue commenting here.
You are not getting any upmap for the v4 for $300. You are not getting ANY map for any dollar amount.
The original map is registered to the bikes Vin when installed by the dealership and is not eligible for resale or transfer. You bought an exhaust only, no mapping will get done unless somehow Ducati “generously” sells you a new map for probably $1,500 or so. There is no aftermarket solution to date that I’m aware of.

Tip- don’t buy used V4 exhausts and expect a fueling solution.

Ducati did away with maps being transferable. Do yourself a favor and buy a bike from a brand that doesn’t butt fuck it’s customers at every turn. The V4 map is downloaded by the installing dealer. I’m not sure how Ducati gets away with this given consumer laws in the us designed to specifically address despicable practices like this. This is a clear disincentive to buying a used system so they can get more of you suckers to spend $5,000 on some bent metal pipes new.

“Should” “would” “could” yes I agree. Ducati is clearly in violation of Federal and numerous state consumer protection laws by pulling stunts like this. Where they *may* have an exemption from the law could be because these parts are classified as off road competition use only these laws may preclude them. Ducati shows itself year over year about only caring about increasing profits and giving less and less to the end user. Anyone buying a new Ducati in 2017+ deserves what they get. The lack of reliability paired with outrageously high maintenance costs and horrific customer service should be the top reasons why you buy elsewhere.
