V4 Speciale < 1299 Final Edition?

Hi folks,

I'm a bit confused regarding the power output of those two beasts.

According to Ducati, the Speciale does 226bhp and the 1299 FE does 209.4 hp both at the crank.

But according to MCC dyno the Speciale pulled 191 hp at the wheel but the 1299 pulled 196?

Here are both runs:

V4 Speciale < 1299 Final Edition?

Needs same dyno sane day. If you watch the Speciale vid to the end the SL with race exhaust did 189 hp. It produces more than the FE.
The v4 with akra produces a fair bit more power than the FE
Watch jhs dyno vid by 44 teeth. FE did 185 whereas standard v4 did 188. Add an akra and about ten to twelve bhp onto the v4 ( I know this as Iíve dynoed my akra shod v4 ) and the power , if thatís what your after is on another level

Mine did 192 standard and 204 with akra and upmap.
On same dyno same day an s1000rr with full akra produced 188 for comparison

Take about 10 to 12% of a crank figure for drivetrain loss to obtain a wheel hp figure.

I Ride: 2015 Panigale R, 1098r Bayliss, Triumph 675R (ex AMA Bike), Beta 300 RR Race
measuring Crank V's Wheel there will always be a difference.

Got that! Then, I was wondering how can a dyno variate so much, same dyno but clearly not the same day.

That FE had the full akra fitted not the euro 4 pipe as fitted standard

I've learned to not trust Ducati's numbers.

The 1299 FE uses the superleggera motor which is virtually a bespoke WSBK engine, and responds well to modest tunes. The V4 Speciale is a large production power plant shared with all other V4 models. The fact that they're so close is what's surprising. As to why Ducati advertises lower numbers for the 1299 vs V4, wouldn't they be shooting themselves in the foot otherwise?

I agree, my 1299 put down 196 baseline albeit with the Akra set up which is very close to the baseline of the V4 rwhp. I got 207 with a tune which is what some are getting with flashes and tunes on the V4. The power numbers seem pretty comparable. Although both the V4 and 1299s have the different, redeeming qualities.
