That I understand it is not the heat but the pressure. The smaller diameter line helps to keep a better fluid pressure keeping the lever solid (someone may know better than me if that is true).

Correct, It also does not help that it gets too much heat from the placement of it...

Just a follow-up on this topic...

My clutch lever would go unusably soft during track days, 40-laps max, 100% of the time, perfectly repeatable. Swapped out master and slave cylinders changed nothing.
I just got the hose replaced, however, and am happy to report that that I did a full Sat and Sun at the track and the lever remained solid the whole time. I think this fixes it, or diminishes the symptoms by 99%. Good times!
