V4R side fairing foam question

Just wanted to check with anyone that has any experience with this. My V4R came with some soft grey foam inside the fairings. They look more like packaging foam than insulation foam - is this meant to be removed after shipment? Or is it meant to be kept on - although it looks like it could melt or catch fire....

And the dealer is ‘not sure’...

For euro sound emissions, I couldn't believe how much was in there. Its even on the rear cylinder head covers.

Thanks! Doesn’t it melt? Doesn’t look like it could take heat.

Nope, it has held up just fine the past 700 miles. Deff not a fan of it, seems like it really holds water/oil and dense like memory foam and prob heavy.

I have the same foam left on my V4R. I have not removed it, but assumed it was for noise isolation. doesnt seem like it will harm anything unless it gets wet as it seems to look like a sponge.

Be curious how it looks removed because its very noticeable through the sides that the foam is there.

It has some clips that can be removed by prying off. I broke a couple of the plastic mounts for the clips removing them, but not a big deal. The inserts are pretty light, so probably not worth messing with them. I mucked around with mine to move from the standard lowers to the Akra lowers. Not sure it makes a lot of difference on noise, though.

I left my foam on. I have the full Akrapovic exhaust on my V4R and I want to hear that sweet sound as cleanly as possible.

Finally got around to pulling my foam out in the interest of cooling. Weighs about 1/2lb per side. Bit of a pain to get it all out but simple green is your friend.
