Lap Timers

Thoughts on aim solo over built in DDA, is the solo easier to use or provide more data?

I have a aim solo 2 DL, I love it except for when it comes time to pour over data on he computer. I have a Mac and the fact hat they do not have an app or native software for apple is insane. DDA is sleeker, no bulky addition to the cockpit, but you have to remember to unplug it after every day as it can drain the battery and I am not sure what the memory is but over all the seems pretty good from what I gather. Good friend of mine uses it

I use VBox Sport, a 20Hz GPS. Very precise racing-line analysis and automatic lap-timer.
GPS of DDA+ is only about 5Hz, still 5 times better then 1Hz of any smartphone.

Judging from the Ducati Link app using the 1Hz GPS of iPhone:

versus the more granular DDA Graphic Analyser data view of same corner:

I find manual lap logging via headlight button a bit of a pain and less precise. I also tend to forget to press this switch each time through start-finish when accelerating to V4 warp speed.

DDA is a bit of a toy and AiM makes real data acquisition products. The true comparison is to the Solo DL though. The Solo does not log telemetry from the bike's sensors.

Maybe it has improved since I had my unit but the difference in capability between Prosa's software and Race Studio Analysis was significant. As an example Prosa's software didn't allow you to create custom math channels. I use a combination of math channels to determine whether I'm coasting, quantify how much coasting I'm doing, and to identify places where I need to figure out why I'm not more actively controlling the bike among other things. You don't get that with DDA.

There's also a pretty good user community for AiM products so if you want help with data analysis there are a bunch of people that know the software and can point you in the right direction. Again, not so much the case with DDA.
Thanks from Keith197 and thorny

Funny after posting about me using my 20Hz GPS device, I re-visited the Racelogic site, the manufacturer of the VBox Sport, and to my complete surprise they advertise the VBox Sport now as a 10Hz only GPS datalogger!?

Puzzled and doubting myself if I've been mistaken about its 20Hz capabilities for years, I called them up and was told the following:

Racelogic recently 'downgraded' its 20Hz satellite sampling-rate of the VBox Sport to 10Hz in favor of a more robust reception: the 10Hz version is now able to receive both GPS (USA) and GLONASS (RUS) satellite networks effectively halving its sampling-rate compared to my 20Gz 'GPS only' version of the same product!

With tree- and cloud-cover or other less optimal reception scenario's the logged tracks should stay more stable when tapping into both satellite networks, loosing out on more precise track-logging under perfect GPS conditions as my 20Hz 'GPS only' initial version.

They are not planning to re-release a 20Hz version doing both networks anytime soon.

No on-track experience with the DDA+ yet, but looking at the Solo DL specs, the DL indeed reads more advanced in both depth and width of its functionality compared to DDA+.

Solo2DL runs at a 10Hz sampling-rate (GPS+Glonass) which is in my opinion (barely) enough to do detailed racing-line comparison, DDA+ seems to be only around 5Hz satellite sampling-rate versus my 20Hz GPS (only) VBox Sport.

Cool stuff from Aim, too bad it doesn't integrate its data on OEM dash. This means -upon Aim's advice NOT to replace the Ducati dash - yet another screen in an already cramped cockpit.

DDA(+) is indeed model specific/ not interchangeable across all Pani's.
Ask your dealer, he knows for sure based on your VIN.

RU sure this is still an issue?
I've read somewhere that Ducati-Prosa fixed this for the DDA+ at least.

My V4s battery seems to be drained more from the installed Ducati alarm and this drain seems nothing out of the ordinary when compared to our car parked with its alarm active.

I read in the installation manual that Red DDA+ Stick has 16MB.
Need to check how many hours it is able to record with this capacity...
