V4S Cutting In & Out

If you have accidentally pushed the shifter enough to "pause" the engine for a second, then you know what I am attempting to describe....

Recently my V4S has begun to experience fits of the engine surging or cutting in/out hard. It seems to happen anytime I want to accelerate after steady-state throttle (even if steady-state is only a handful of seconds).

Example... you get stuck behind a car for a few turns on a twisty section. You make the pass and start to attack the corners, but the bike cuts out and restarts hard (again imagine you tapping the quick shifter). It will do this surge 2-10 time, stop for a few seconds, then do it again, for up to a minute before it settles down for a couple minutes, then starts this dance again.

It has done it on a full tank, and an a near empty tank. It has done it at 1200 feet altitude and 3300 feet. It has done it with 2 or 3 bars of engine temperature - either stuck in traffic or when riding on an open road. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, other than riding aggressively, getting choked down, and going again seems to always cause it.

Anybody experience anything similar?

I've had almost the exact same issue although mine was more sporadic and unpredictable. Mine ended up apparently being a faulty quick shifter which Ducati replaced on warranty. There are a few threads around about this as several people seem to have had similar behavior. Please post what you find out when you get up the bottom of it. I'm still not entirely convinced it was my quick shifter although I haven't had it happen since.

At least yours is easy to reproduce. In my case they just had to go on symptoms I described.

The quick shifter is bad, take it to the dealer and they'll change it out under warranty.

Although my new quick shifter from the dealer does the same problem after its exposed to heat for a long time. I was doing an endurance race, and after riding for 30 minutes on the track getting hot, the quick shifter started to fail again. When doing 20 minute sessions, I didn't have the same cutting out problems.

Same issue on my '18 V4S. Very random and rare. I'm waiting for a definitive solution.

Thank you for the answers. I'll certainly update when I hear from the dealer.

I have the '19 corse and I also have this issue. I disabled the QS and it made no difference. Had it recently serviced 1K where tank recall and fuelling update was carried out. Still waiting on feedback from Ducati

If anything comes to light, I'll be sure to post it up as well

Cheers

They actually makes a lot more sense given how mine behaves when it does it. Also worth noting it's happened when I've had DQS disabled as well. Usually under hard acceleration. It's the worst time too. Have had some nut crushing slams down from power wheelies.

Anything in specific to check for?

Sadly the dealer was unable to find any issues on the bike. The Ducati rep suggested recalibrating the tires, so this was done....

However, the problem previously showed up after a long and spirited ride thru the mountains. My fear is that another long day of aggressive riding with cause the problem to come back and will once again ruin another mountain trip.

I had my bike at the dealer for recall work. They could not find anything regarding cutoffs.

They mentioned that sometimes when touching the shifter lever while accelerating may cause the cutting in/out. I will pay more attention to my foot positions, but doubt this is the real cause.
