I had a similar experience on my bike--cruising to an unfamiliar garage with the engine off as I was coasting to a halt, I hit a chunk of concrete at 2-3mph. I picked up the bike to discover the magic forcefield feature not mentioned in the brochure. No damage you could see without a magnifying glass.

As for your brake lever--I don't exactly understand how you put the pin in first, then the lever. So just make sure that it's solidly connected. You definitely would not want that sucker to fall off during a ride.

I am really bad at explaining this stuff! But what I did was press on spring-loaded end of the lever (where the reach-adjuster screw is) to expose the barrel on the end of the actuator pin. This is the barrel that sits inside a slot so it can freely pivot. With a little wiggling I was able to slide the barrel completely out so it was free from the lever. That made it a fair bit easier to insert the pin into the small hole in the boot seal and that was it! The only prob was that it was very fiddly to get the barrel back into it's housing - but I got there in the end!
