How to install HID's on Ducati 1199 Panigale

I chose to replace my highbeams with HID first. I will be installing my lowbeams with a new 6500 Lumen HID soon
Ok, to do this the right way you must remove the upper side fairings, mirrors, front faring, and also the headlight.

pic 1
Begin by removing the first pushpins on the inside of each side inside the wheel well. Note there are two on each side. The first one holds the front of the side fairing on. The rear applied to the parts that can stay for this job.
pic2
Remove all of the upper fairing screws. You will notice each one of these has a plastic washer. I suggest not to loose these. They protect the fairing from premature damage from movement during hard riding and constant removal of fairings. If you place each screw, threads facing up/head down on the table, it will be easier to keep track of them.
pic3
Remove the screws on the bottom half of fairing. The you can begin to pry the fairing outward beginning at the bottom shown here. Continue prying and pulling fairing towards the front of the bike
pic 4
Notice fairing has clips here. When the fairing is pulled out, then pulled towards the front of the bike they should slide right out.
pic5
Remove srews here on both sides

Pry up and undo this joint carefully. Then, pull entire piece towards the front of the bike. Be careful not tu pull upward to much. You could ruin the male or female parts of those latches. Remove black piece. Tip: put Towels down around this bike while taking off Fairing. This will prevent unwanted damage if piece falls suddenly ( common)
- apply to both sides-
pic 7
Remove srews for turn signals and remove signals. Note there is a rubber boot protecting the connector. use this pic to reassemble this into the same form for the mirror to fit. If you choose the shortcut as I do reassemble and pull plug all the way through the rubber and just pull down the rrmaining excess into the fairing.
pic8
Remove this screw in the middle, and begin sliding piece back towards rear of bike. You will now need to remove the second setr og plastic plug in from inside the front well.
pic9
This is what those clips look like
pic10
Snip this zip tie so you will be able to pull entire fairing forward.

Next you will have to find these bolts on both sides. I believe it was an 8mm. unscrew these. Be ready incase front releases early.
pic12
Insert flat screwdriver without scratching paint and pry towards the front of the bike.
pic13

pic14

after you remove that piece, unscrew these bolts to pull headlight uit off of bike. You will find that if you do not put a towel on the wheel fairing you will damage it very easily. pull unit forward.
pic17
look for these tiny special screws.(look almost in the middle of the picture you can see the left side) 2 here and 2 underneath on the ends of the bottom. there will also be a second size screw head to remove underneath. Look down at unit, the factory Highbeam bulbs do not extend out nearly as far as the aftermarket will. We will modify this space to accomodate.
pic18
Here you can see the bottom of the lamp. notice the end screws. Also, remove the screws underneath of the unit. Remove both plastic pieces from the rear.
pic19
This is the bit used for pic 17
pic 20
You will have to remove this ziptie to manuver headlight comfortably

Take the hid bulb out of casing.
pic27
Remove white plastic ring and seat rubber sealer around like so. BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE BULB EVR. If you do by accident wipe clean with an alchol swab. let dry
pic 28
Take your time with this part. Look at hole and note where different size slots are. Insert bulb and carefully twist. Be sure you feel it turn and stop. Reverse the movement and twist again to be sure it has twisted all the way. If this is not in place properly it will wiggle loose and move melting plactic wherever it touches...
pic 29
follow pic to figure out which wire goes where. Note you can tell which is positive and vegative by my picture. This paticular unit has little plugs and no bracket.
pic 30
Test. Allow bulbs to be on for a few minutes after you turn them on. I waited until they turned off automatically because bike wasnt on then turned key off and right back on again until next time out.

HOLY CRAP !!!!!
pic 32
Because this kit has two single positive ans negative plugs, and not a manufactured one piece plug, I make my own. First electrical tape around 3 times.
pic 33
Then I insert a zip tie in between like so to seperate them, thread through, and connect. Pulling tighter brings them firmly together.
pic 34
Rebuild the rear and be sure to put all the screws back in.
pic 35
drape new excess wire over the front and rebuild headlamp back onto motorcycle. Continue to check everything still works as you go.

Afetr headlight unit is screwed back on you can carefully tuck wiring up in available space shown. This will be tricky. Take your time cram as neatly as possible. if area is stretched even a little the fairings will not fit. I found that positioning the balasts one flat one up and down worked best.

Now assemble bike by looking backwards through the pictures

Great write up man! We need a pic of the finished product! Maybe a low beam, high beam, and day and night shot?
