dunlop q3

ok so ive been on the phone with dunlop over the last 2 months about a tire for the panigale. here is what i have learned and what is in the works.

dunlop has never had nor have they tested any tire for the 1199. They now have a pani to test their new Q3 tire on. This will be done on aug 26. I asked dunlop what is in the works for a 200/55 and as of now they dont know. there will be 3 possible outcomes after the test either:
1 produce a 200/55 tire (1199 hp4 and ape) all use these stock now
2 recommend a tire they already produce with tc setting recommendations.
3 do nothing.

This is what i was told. no assumptions straight from the horses mouth. i dont know anything else.

hope this helps
Thanks from Gunny Fitz, gman74, Stw and 2 others

Keep in mind, the ape only gets 200s on the factory rsv4, low production, as is hp4. So it may just not be cost effective yet. That said, I've no doubt 200s will be the new "it" tire in a year or so and will be on all the japanese liter bikes, just like when the 190 came out on the 9x6.

Does it seem absurd to anyone else for them NOT to produce a tire size that is on the 1199, HP4, and RSV4??? And the tire size that, at least currently, seems to be the "way of the future"...

Seems like they are really hurting themselves by not making it in that size
Thanks from Stw and jjsC6

I agree... I think the market for this tyre is huge....

Charlie M has been running Q3 on the rear of his pani for some months now, said he was happy with it. It's the 190 spec.

makes no sense to me. i mean they produce a 200/50 and a 190/55. now i know the s1000rr uses the 190/55 for their base models. all the other exotics use a 200/55. i dont know anyone who uses a 200/50

i know it will work but call me vain i hate how they look. my friend has an 1198s and stock is 190/55. looks so much smaller. i dont want to have to play with tc. i cant believe there isnt more 200/55 options.
Thanks from jjsC6

Yes, three bikes available with the tire seems to be enough to justify a market to me if you are serious about being in the SS tire market. And as mentioned above, it's only a matter of time when more bikes come with them.

I put a 190/55-17 Q3 on my bike and it worked just fine. So for that reason I think they might do nothing unless the 200 makes a huge difference which I doubt. Honestly I tried both sizes street and track and I couldn't feel any difference what so ever.

I ran a q2 yesterday at the track and almost lost the front end. My lap times were getting faster and faster. Racers are running 59-1:01 and I was at a 1:07. Tires are great until you really start to push it. Mine were getting real greasy and the TC at lvl 1 was lit up like a Xmas tree all nite lol.

Going back to the pirellis for sure. Or a power one.

Love them on the street, but scary on the track.

I believe you that the difference going to a 190 is not going to be felt by most people. But that does not change the fact that most people are not going to want to go down a size as along as they can get the OEM tire. Right, wrong or indifferent, I have a great sense of security running the OEM Pirelli. And price is not a factor or I would not have bought a Ducati to begin with.

I'm not knocking people like you who went the 190 btw. Just stating my opinion that most people will not want to do it.
