Oil Filter 899 vs 1199 *Important*

Found out today 899 does not take the same oil filter as the 1199... The 899 is actually the same as the Super Leggera ..The difference is that the 899/SL filter centre hole is smaller...this means that if you use the 1199 filter in either of the other 2 bikes your oil is not being filtered...So be careful...

I just ordered both kits in the event the K&N does not come with the above which i doubt it does.

I will let you know when it arrives.

I've used K&N filters with other bikes and they usually don't come with anything other than the filter. The prices at Ducati dealers for the crush washer and O-rings aren't ridiculous, so I would just stock up on those next time you're in.

Copper crush washers can be gotten at AutoZone, Pep Boyz, et. al. really cheap. Take your old crush washer there for reference, tell 'em you need a handful and return home with a big handful for a couple of bucks. Did that years ago for the race bike (where you're changing oil/filter every week) and still have a drawer full left and I think I spent 5 bucks at the time.

Or, if you're feeling particularly thrift-prone (or don't have access to your drawer full of PeP Boys washers) just reuse the one you have. Heat it with a propane torch (you do have one of these in your tool box, doncha'?) until it begins to glow, drop it in a bucket of water, wait 30 seconds and then you're good to go.

Having gotten this filter I can confirm Jeffs assessment..its a filter only... nothing else.... What can you expect for $11 lol....Ducati one doesn't come with these either.... IIRC

I believe this is incorrect, the ID of both filters is 11mm. There's a very slight difference in the molded o-ring design but not enough to make a massive difference either way. We have been told that either filter can be used on either bike in a pinch. Bottom line, it's not a life-or-death thing, and CERTAINLY not like your oil is not being filtered if you use the 1199 filter in the 899.

Hmmm... Well not sure what you mean... You say this is incorrect and yet you say "We have been told that either filter can be used on either bike in a pinch"...so the filters are different...Right???

They are very slightly different if you look at them side by side, but the ID is the same on both and they fit over the nipple in the engine case the same way. I was just trying to temper the statement in the first thread that stated that they were different size and the oil would not be filtered. That is incorrect. You can certainly not go wrong using the correct part number with the correct bike, but if you only have an 1199 filter lying around and need to do an oil change on the 899 you can use it.
